Default Ferrari - Style Shifter In Our Zs

I was thinking the other day that a Ferrari Style shifter would be a really cool mod for the Z.

The only problem is that, like myself, many members have short shifter kits and therefore the gates are placed differently.

Does anybody know of a shop or retailer were we could possibly manufacture a unit or even do a group buy for specific short shifter kits?

What do you guys think???

Anybody out there able to perform precision machinery with the ability to devise something like this?

I was thinking to have the gates drawn out on top of the shifter, and have an engraved "Z" emblem somewhere on the bottom of the assembly.

If a substantial company got a hold of this idea, then we could have various style shift assemblies - blue, red, carbon-fiber-like, etc.

gate shifter on a z will make it easier to miss shift. not sure if it will look right on the z. IMO

I've mentioned this before and I think someone on this board has already gone and made one but I'm not sure if it's been finalized for further production.

Do you remember which board member it was, and how the design worked for him?

a gate shifter? i would think it might ADD time to shifting cuz now you HAVE to squeeze into a pre-cut out slot-.

i thought you guys were talking about sequential paddle shifters.... *sigh* that would be cool.

But hearing the mechanical click of cold metal every shift is well worth it.

Default yeah I had looked into this,

even began designing it. But got sidetracked with other projects. The shifter is too short to make it practical. You will notice at about the level of the bottom of the boot, the shifter has very little movement in any direction. I designed one with that in mind but using a modified auto shift panel, which sits higher by about an inch. High enough to allow the throw through a gated pattern. Anyway, time is short, got lots of stuff to do and never got back to it. Woulda been cool though.

I am trying to contact a guy that according to rumors can build anything out of metal. Hopefully with his help we can come up with something. But like you, pinnacleliquid, and many others on the board, I only want to install a shifter that is cosmetically and mechanically superior.

A engineer friend of mine had done it for the MR2...

... but it's far more complicated than you might think at first glance! The OEM shifter lever is by far too thick to operate in a gated cover. He re-designed the whole thing with all kind of mechanical tricks to make it work. And adjustement was a pain too. A commercial kit of this kind would be around $300 at least...

looks cheesy, doesn't belong in the styling theme inside the Z...the interior design and pen of the Z's interior doesn't work with pininfarina style...my 50million cents
