I've actually tried that already. Yes, you can cut them to the same shape...but...that stuff if VERY fragile and it doesn't have a flat side. There are some tabs on the OEM strips that are recessed down. These hold them in place. When trying to make those same tabs with the Flourescent panels...they just won't match up.
I got a couple almost exactly like they needed to be, but they were just too off for me to actually install them. I would be afraid that they would pop loose and end-up sideways under the housing. Trust me...I used a heat-gun to get the bends and twists exactly the same also, but it just wasn't up to par.
Feel free to try it though. If you're able to get them right...you may have some customers willing to use them.
Check it out...

Ok guys, I think they've decided that they are going to go into production with it. Here's the e-mail I got from them:
There will be no single sample produced. There will be a large number
created. This is a high volume process as we are trying to bring in the
price down. This means a huge investment on our part to get this done. This
is why a gauging of interest was needed.
As for an ETA, that is up in the unknown. We have used this process in the
past to manufacture a few other items. But we have never needed to hurry the
process along, so we did not even bother to track the time it took. My guess
is 30-60 day from start to finish. As of right now the process has yet to
start. We have to get the OEM part into the manufactures hands.
I know it's not a start, but things are looking good. I've set up a new e-mail account: clearlights@gmail.com. Just send me an e-mail if you have interest in them and would like to be notified once it's available. I will collect all e-mail info and pass it on to the guys who are doing this. Once they have the first batch available they will send you e-mails of price and I guess what it looks like and then you can decide for yourselves if it's something that you still want. Like I've stated before, the first production will be all clears. They will go and make smoked lights later in the future. Don't leave me question on that e-mail account as it will only be used to collect contact info.

trust me, with the demand that these strips are going for right now, getting a set for under $100 is a good deal.
I got a set of the ones ares' originally made second hand and i paid $125 for them. (it does help that shipping from Germanyy costed over $30 though).
