Exclamation Rear Hatch Badge Replaced!!

Well, I replaced the rear hatch bigass Nissan badge. I used the side emblem. To remove the Nissan badge I tried the dental floss but it kept breaking so I tried some fishing line (don't ask what test weight) it broke also but not as much. After removing the badge I had the remaining adhesive, using a blow dryer helped just becareful as I was using my thumb to roll the adhesive off and got a blister. Then I used some lighter fluid (couldn't find the go gone) to remove remains and finally cleaned with alcohol. The side emblems come with little oins in the back so I had to remove them first with a knive.

Here is a picture of the hatch without any emblems, if it wasn't for the two holes I would have left it with nothing.

And here is another up close to show the only thing I don't like and that is that it sits up a little bit from the surface of the hatch. I have another badge that I might try to remove some material to make it sit flush but I need to get some of the industrial strength adhesive Nissan uses to attach emblems!!!

Looks...interesting. So what are you going to do with the other badge? Are you going to put something else in place of the two side badges? I must admit I don't like the way it isn't flush with the metal but it's certainly unique!

Originally I was going to leave it without any badges until I found out it had holes SO I figured this badge was better than the Nissan one.

I didn't take off the side ones, I bought these.

Default The Pitlizard likes it

Gus, I like the look of the Z emblem. If its plastic, you could heat it in an oven and form over a piece of metal or wood with the same radius. If metal you could cut the curve in a block of wood and press the emblem in a vise enough to fit the truck lid curve.

If all else fails, you could afford to fill the holes with a pair of your wife's diamond stud earrings, now that would make you a one of a kind.

Now on to the front emblem, did you get the prototype?.

The problem is that she wont part with the earings!!

I haven't done anything with the front emblem, I didn't like the one that was made, too flat and not enough body to it. Will wait until the new guy on the block from the S2000's comes up with something and see.

Looks good...but what jumped out at me was that there was too much 'Z' in the area. How about getting a 'Fairlady Z' badge, cutting the Z part off, and sticking just the 'Fairlady' part on there?
Btw, my car's in the shop getting the rear bumper & quarterpanel refinished (read my post about the mall damage), and I'm also getting the front bumper refinished. How about I have the bodyshop put the Z badge on there, instead of the Nissan logo? But I wonder if they're the same size
Westpak, where did you get the badge?

I read about your damage, it hurts to hear all of the instances of damage ocurring around the country, and it makes me just more paranoid about leaving my car unattended, so far so good.

I agree about maybe too much Z but I prefer it to the big Nissan badge, it's like the least of two evils. I purchased the FairladyZ badge but just couldn;t get myself to put it on, just not what the 350Z is or any other Z's. I would prefer to have just the 350Z but those two holes kind of did away with that option, if you like it like that maybe the shop can help you out.

I bought the emblems on Ebay, but you could probably get them from a Nissan dealer, I will post the part numbers later.

How much does it stick out? Is it enough that you can see from far away? What about from the side? Can you see the black sticky tape underneath or does it just barely stick up on top.;..

The numbers on the boxes are:
1. 020829 and 63900-CD000
2. 020913 and 63890-CD000

It doesn't specify which is the part number but I would guess the first number in each case because they are different I guess for left and right, the only difference are the pins, once removed the are the same.

The gap is less than the thickness of two cd's maybe like 1 1/2. The adhesive can't be seen because it is recessed in from the edge that is why the gap, the gap is not due to curvature of hatch. I was thinking of removing the adhesive and sand down some of the material in the middle of the emblem to then put adhesive up against the edge and then the gap would just be the thickness of the adhesive and the adhesive would be visible. The emblems are that way because they are installed in a recessed spot on the side of the car and are not flush. And it is only visible from the side and only up close.

So there is a gap around the entire Z symbol then right? Because the adhesive is in the middle... So theoretically I could just put adhesive tape on the entire emblem and it would not have a visible gap?

Hey westpak, do you know if the 350Z on the left has holes holding it in? I'm assuming it doesnt... Now that I think about it, the car would look REALLY dope if you could take off the 350Z and just have the rear Z emblem there.... It would look more uniform. I think i'm going to do that

I haven't taken it off, but I would guess that it doesn't have holes behind it. I bought the FairladyZ badge and it had no pins just adhesive.

Here is a pic of the installation up close and you can see the gap is pretty even all around, whatever curve there might be should be taken care of by the adhesive.

Here is closeup of the badge itself, it is not too clear but you can see the step that exists beyond the outer edge of the emblem, I was thinking of removing the adhesive and sanding down the step so it would be even with the outer edge of the emblem and put new adhesive so that it would around the outer edge and therefore have no gap just the adhesive.

Love the mod. I think it would be extra sweet if you could pull the "350z" emblem off.

I thought about that but it is part of what the car is, it would be like debadging a 240Z or 300ZX, that is what identifies it. The Nissan is none of that plus it was ugly, like I said I would have left it without anything but those two holes kind of made the decision for me. I like the way it looks now better than the Nissan badge.

I bought them through Ebay for 45 bucks with shipping. You should be able to buy them from Nissan the information on the boxes is:

1. 020829 and 63900-CD000
2. 020913 and 63890-CD000

It doesn't specify which is the part number but I would guess the first number in each case because they are different I guess for left and right, the only difference are the pins, once removed the are the same.

The front I haven't done anything yet, if it wasn't for the recessed shape I would put another fender emblem there, as a matter of fact I just might anyway, I'll have to take a look and see how it would fit, if it is too small and would look out of place. Otherwise I am going to wait until someone comes out with a badge, not the one made by Wadd, not enough finesse on that one for my taste.
