Default Prep and Primer my sideskirts?

when i took my nismo replica sideskirts to a body shop for a quote to paint them, the guy said they need to be prepped and primered. what does this involve? seems like it would be an easy diy project. specifically, i need to know what grain and type of sandpaper i would need to get rid of some small irregularities/bumps, and how do i do the primer part? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanx.

The prep is a LOT of work. With fiberglass its best to glaze the whole part, sand with 180 then fill your pinholes, sand with 180 then prime. Spray guide coat then wetsand with 800 wet. Once your happy paint.

Prepping is in fact the hardest part of the paint job, thats what their mostly charging you for because that part of job requires the most amount of labor. Its not too difficult if u know how to do it, more time consuming than anything. ALLOT OF SANDING!!!

Keep in mind that if you do the prep. yourself and have them paint it, you may have problems. If something goes wrong with the paint job they will jump to blame the prep. work.
