Default Has anyone removed the amber strip from the headlights?

I'm a big fan of clear corners. With my Audi I was able to remove the amber corners by drilling out the tabs holding them in place and then break the amber and pull it out a bulb socket. Has anyone attempted this yet? It's been too cold in NY since i got the car to start pulling stuff apart to investigate.

That would be great if someone could figure out a relatively cheap and easy way to do that...if you are making the bumper reflectors clear, then you might as make the whole front end clear as well...it would make it really clean imo...

Do any of you light gurus have any info on replacing that orange strip with a clear one? That would definitely set the 350 apart from anyone other cars out there right now...

Then everyone could get a set of those clear bumper reflectors w/ leds from Strictly Z...(wink wink)

if it's anything like the s2000 headlight assembly, you can bake the light in the oven to melt the adhesive and simply take out the orange strip, reseal it and reattach it.

edit.

just went out to look at it. it looks like you could do that, but you would need a clear strip to replace the amber one, or else it might look funny.

hmmmmmm......... sounds complicated? but why is no one trying this? I think it would great, as long s you put an orange bulb in there, so at night it looks stock, but during the day it looks cooler.

You'd probably just be able to use a Dremel and cut the housing open along the seams. Use some pliars to take out the orange strip, and seal them back up with some JB Weld or something.

It's "doable"

I heard there is this guy that custom makes these plastic parts and made a clear reflector for S2000 headlights that replaces the stock amber reflector. Replacing it with clear ones definately look nicer instead of simply taking out the amber reflectors. (If you just took out the amber reflector, it will look as if the headlight's missing something.)

The same guy is working on Acura TL's reflectors right now. For more info, see here.

The problem with clearing headlights is heating and resealing. There is always a possibility of "fogging" after the headlights are resealed regardless of how little or how much silicon you use to reseal them.. which I am not willing to risk at this point. (I might in the future when I have nothing else to mod.)

FWIW, what is mentioned here, with the oven, is a very common method for clearing the rear tailights on the 300ZX also. I assisted in two of these. A quick search on twinturbo.net will yield the tech pages on how to do it..... try searching for clearing tailights oven or something similar.

Thanks for the post Moroccan_Mole....good call.
