Default Tint Brands

Just curious what kind of tint is everyone getting (brand, color, and percentage). Pics would be awesome especially if you have a silverstone but any color will do. Ive been told to get 3M tint because of the lifetime guarentee. Do other companies provide something like that?

Also with metalized tint has anyone had problems with radar detectors or cell phones not getting decent reception?

Thanks guys

I think lots of companies provide that guarentee. I got Formula One tints at 35% all around (except of the front of course). I don't have pics, but my z is sb anyways.

The tints I got is Ceramic, which will not interfere with detectors, cells, or internal radio antennas (as I was told). And I've heard that metalized tints *will* cause problems though.

I have only used two brands of tint Llumar and Sun-Gard.

I have 20% Sungard all around on my Silverstone. When I was looking for tint I wanted Llumar, because thats what I always used in the past. I ended up going with the sun-gard as the installer said it was better tint and all the Llumar he had in 20% was reflective. The reflective looks kinda funny in the places where the little black dots and gradient are around the rear and corner windows. The normal smoke tint looked much better. He put a strip of tint on both sides to show me the difference. Both had lifetime warranty.

Let me know if you want some pictures.

Here are the web sites:

thanks for the info...if you have pics that would be awesome. Think its worth it to pay a little more and get ceramic tint? I have a radar detector and am on my phone quite a bit in the car (dont worry handsfree always!). I really dont want to be dropping calls left and right.

i got a quote of 300 for formula one pincacle tint (20 all around). think thats too much?

Thanks

I've got metallic Sun-Gard, Charcoal, 13%. I'm adding 35% to the front on Thursday and will go with a non-metallic so I can still use my toll collection transponder but I havn't had any problem with my cell phone so far.

The charcoal is a nice color because it looks a little lighter than it really is but provides greater blocking of that evil sun.

Here are some pictures:

Let me dig some up.

I think I paid $200 and they removed the door panels and rear panels to tint entire window surface.

I dont know too much about the ceramic tint. I know if it has any type of reflective or mirror look, it will stand out in the corners of the windows, kinda like a picture frame. Smoke or Charcoal will blend much better. Oh yeah, my 20% Sungard does pass TN 35% laws. Look here:

You can see at the top of the window that black bar. You dont want that standing out, it looks funny when it does. This is really the only angle you can see that much difference. You can also see the windows appear to be super dark, but its all in the angle of the picture.

I recently went with Llumar 20% all around (35% is legal in MS). I had Sun-Gard on my last car. I think both are reputable and good quality. Pics are in my sig.

It has made a considerable difference during this southern summer heat. I would have gone darker, but they inforce the tint here. I got pulled over one night in my last car, with the same 20% tint. I didn't get a ticket, but it was a BS reason to pull me over.

As a matter of fact, the guy that did my tint was an off duty city cop. He tried talking me out of the 20%, saying "I wrote someone a ticket for that last night", and so on. I figured whatever... Anyway, when I go to pick up the car, I made a comment about how light the tint looked (bright sunny day outside). He then said: "They lady I pulled over last night is coming in to get her tint ripped off and replaced with a lighter grade, since I ticketed her." Sounds like a racket that he can put it on, ticket you, then rip it off....more like rip you off. If he tickets me for it, I'll take him to court and tell the judge he installed it! Besides, how do you pull someone over at night for tint level?

2 weeks later... I find out the state legislature passed a new law, going into effect next month: Inspection stations must check for tint, which means no inspection sticker. i just got a new one yesterday. I figure at least I will have a year to figure out what to do.

Wow, that looks nice Zandy.

I only paid $100 but they didn't remove door panels and what-not so the tint doesn't cover entire window. I also had to pay the guy in cash and I got no receipt.

I still haven't gotten the front tinted. The guy is reluctant to do it because of the dots on the windshield up by the mirror. He said that the tint will just start peeling off pretty quickly.

I tend to believe him because he's been doing tint for like 25 years. Also, for someone to say they don't want to take my money because they don't think the job will be acceptable means a lot to me.

I need to figure out if I can remove those dots with a razor or some kind of chemical, I'll start a new thread asking that so I don't hijack this one. Cost for tinting the front window will be $75.
