Question General feeler: Shifter cover

Hey guys and girls,
I just wanted to sort of get an idea of how many people might be interested in a leather or vinyl cover for you manual shift ****. I know that everytime I get into my car with my aluminum shift **** and the sun has been shining on it I can't touch the thing. So, my fiance is working on sewing up a leather or leather-esque cover for mine. We're using black vinyl and gray thread to make them with and when I finish one and see what it looks like I'll post some pics. But I know I've heard people talk about this and if it's possible and I can make them high enough quality I would consider making some more and selling them. I just wanted to see how many people would be interested in something like this? Like I said, once I make one I will let everyone know what they look like! Thanks,
Fletch

Sounds like a good idea. I place a binnie (sp?) over the shifter, I know that's ghetto, but it works. Can she stitch a Z symbol on there as well?

Yes i would be interested.. my tint doesnt do the trick so your new invention might. But one thing u should try to implement in it, is make it easy to remove and put back on.

If you have that much sun hitting your shifter on a regular basis, UV's must be slowly destroying your interior. I would suggest one of those sun covers for your windshield!

I don't think this will keep the **** from getting hot. I had a black billet **** on my 2000 Ws6 and I tried covering it with a white sock while it was parked at work all day. It was still very hot after work. It seems the metal absorbed the heat from in the cabin not from direct sunlight.

I've parked mine outside and if it's not in the sun but it's hot in the cabin my shift **** doesn't get hot. If it's in direct sunlight it soaks it up. I'm going to try to make one with a pretty heavy vinyl or leather material and I've got a few ideas for putting a Z emblem or stitching or cut out on it, but I've just got to get some time to try it and then leave on my shift **** to make sure that it works. I'll try it and let everyone know!

Perhaps you could also make one with the lighter "frost" color leather. Not only would it look nice for us Frost interior folks, it would also reflect more heat rather than the black leather soaking it up (the idea is for heat dissipation, isnt it?)

Ditto on the stitched Z logo idea!

Yeah, I'll have to test with different materials. The only reason I was thinking black is because the majority of Z's have a black interior and it matches everything. But I could do it with a lighter color too. I'll have to see how plausible the design is first and then I'll test heat dissipation.
