Alright, they looked at me like i was on crack.

They've never heard of a Single Pull Single Throw relay with 5 terminals.

They said if I wanted 5 terminals it would have to be a single pull double throw relay.

Has no one else gotten their side markers to blink other than Skiddazle... LED or stock bulb?

Maybe a mod should put this in the DIY forum.

LOL! Man this thing is prehistoric. Based on Ares' original design and pictures, almost anyone can put these together.

afro is correct. my work is hardly secret. Ill offer assistance to anyone that wishes to do this for themselves. I dont have any photos of it though...

3 LEDs, and a resistor depending on the color LEDs used and their voltage. along with some good soldering.

things get tricky when your talking about luxeons or many many LEDs.

I didnt understand this part of Skiddazzles thread:
"First thing you want to do is use a grinder or a dremel and remove the 2 inner ribs of the sidemarker. they are in the way of drilling for the LED holes. (see pic below)"

also, Is there a way to remove the lense from the plastic backing? HEat gun? oven? brute force?

Thanx guys/girls

I can say the answer to that is a big fat no. they are glued together, and basicly bonded.

only way to seperate is to take 2 sets and destroy the lens of 1 set to get the backing, and destroy the backing of the other set to get the lens. which I have done... but unfortunatly, the clear sidemarkers remain clear even if you paint the backing black. doh!

anyway, if you have the sidemarkers in front of you, you will see a total of 4 ribs across the back, raised ribs, I guess for support or whatever. 2 of the ribs are exactly behind where the top and bottom indentation is. so to drill the hole to place the LED in, it helps if you dont have a rib

No, you can't remove the lens from the plastic backing. I had a retarded looking sidemarker for a couple of weeks before a replacement came.

thanx for the help guys. I understand the rib part now. I guess i could cut out two small squares out of that section.

My other question is, how many mm's is the gap between the backing and the front?

also there must be some way other way to seperate these two peices. Ive seen a similar set on clearcorners.com where they seperate the two peices to put their circuit board inside. IF they are not seperating them they are either buying the peices seperately or making the entire sidemarker from scratch. anyone know how they do this???

gap is about 2mm. I dont know for sure what clearcorners does or doesnt do exactly. but it is clear the part you see is not the same pattern as that of the stock sidemarker, and the 3 indentations are not visible in the pictures. he may be remaking the clear lens part and using only the backing or something, I dont know. but he has some method.

off hand to me it seems he remakes the whole thing... but its a conversion so he's reusing some part of the reflectors. his certainly look good whatever he does; but I guess too good for most to afford. keeps them rare though which probably makes that can afford them happy.

Its no secret, thats for sure. We've been custom-fabricating high-end lighting solutions for over one decade now. Our dual function Z33 side-markers use upwards of 150 of the most exotic LEDs available. Combine that with a lot of labor and attention to detail and you have our finished product. Actually, our Z33 side-markers have been recently redesigned, here is the new link to our product:

Interesting side-note, Skidazzle (who first wrote this thread) is running our headlamps and our side-markers.

Default nite rider

Did you really install the knight rider dealio on your car? I want it!! Where did you get it?

How much?

OK, if I wanted to use 5 LED's instead of 3... would that affect the type of relay to get? I would just need to calculate for a different resistor, right?

And where can I pick up this type of relay?

Turned out great and the LED's still work fine. no need for all this extra stuff.
