Body work cost?? Estimate high?
I just got an estimate on some body work today and I wanted to know if everyone thinks that it is about right or too high. Ive had work done on other cars at this shop before and they've always had very low pricing and good quality work, but this estimate seemed high.
Here is what they will be doing:
Remove/refinish front bumper (daytona blue)
Remove/refinish rear bumper
Align my CF hood, it isnt perfectly lined up.
Cut the hole, install VARIS duct w/ matte black rivets.
Install veilside V1 CF front lip (no paint, 2 sided tape and 4 to 6 bolts)
Sand, Paint, install Ings half kit wing
Shave front emblem, license plate holes, and sand some damage on front bumper
The estimate for all costs, paint, materials, and labor comes to $1,760 I was kind of expecting it to be about 1000 or so... any thoughts? Thanks!

I would say that is pretty high, shop around. A reputable shop would probably charge around $300 per bumper including all paint and labor at a max. Figure about an hour labor to shave the emblem in the bumper, and a half hour for everything else you have listed. So $600 + whatever 2 and half hours of labor is. I wouldnt pay more than a grand for that.

nah, thats a good deal. theyre refinishing both ur bumpers in addition to refitting and putting on other body pieces plus paint. Thats allot of time. 1700 seems totally fair to me considering how many hours of work you need done.

I paid $600 for refinish and repainting of my front and rear bumpers along with the install and painting of my V1 lip. but this is through a friend of a friends shop who really hooked me up and this was a quality OEM color matched job, none of that earl schib, macco crap. I had some minor front and rear damage that needed repairing...

how can you guys judge what is a "good price" or a "bad price" by the limited info?
What paint is he using...what about other materials?
I jsut got done doing my car...painted front bumper, repainted both sideskirtrs (one ahd a crack, both had some stress marks in paint), refinish rear spoiler (frp spoiler developed a crack and caused paint to crack), and repaint my hood
1 gallon of paint (yess, I have lots left over), clear and all the trimings (sanding pads, reducer, hardeners, fiberglass, primer) - supplies alone cost me nearly $650.00. total labor time (we did it ourselves at the shop) was around 14 hours. I used DuPont Chroma Base, as that is the only stuff my guy will use. All top notch brands for the rest of it (Norton, 3M and DuPont)
30 minutes to shave the badge on a front bumper Iwould be scared to wash the car afterwards. It took me 3 hours to properly fix the sideskirt on my car (C West PFRP) - and that was a quarter sized crack
It does not sound totally out of line...better question is, what is the quality fo work the shop puts out?
Given these costs, I'd jump at $1000 if they are using quality stuff

Well to be honest I could do a bit more homework on the materials they use... all I know about the shop at this point is that I've used them in the past for my sentra se-r spec v, granted the paint was black which is easy to match, it looked great and I feel they did a good job on it... they also had a very reasonable price for that job, and good customer assurance, they were friendlier and seemed to know more than some of the people at the other shops I got estimates from.

I forgot to add... this topic is getting very interesting because the people who I have been asking off of the boards are about half and half too, between just right and too high. I did speak to a friend of a friend who does body work for Ferrari San Diego and he said that it sounded about right too. I think at this point I just need to get another estimate or two for comparison purposes and then bite the bullet and get it all done.

Ask for references from the place... If they have have happy customers, then do it. Paying more for a good job is better than paying the lowest bid and then having a crappy looking car.
