Vented hood owners
Tried the search feature and didn't find it. Although I'm sure that someone must have brought up this topic before.
Vented hood owners, any problems you encountered with heavy rain? I can't see it being really good for the engine to be washed down with rain - especially if you drove the car for some couple of hours. Can the heat disapation be too fast and cause things to crack? What about intake - can the cone/filter get soaked after some time and cause engine problems? I'm not talking about driving through a lake. I'm talking about those rare heavy rain days when you absolutely need to use the fastest wiper speed.

I think it's mainly for looks if you think about it. If you want a vent get a Varis ar duct, that should help a little but not a significant difference IMO, or so I've heard. They look cool as hell tho-
Good question. I’m searching for a conservative looking hood which rises in the back (where it meets the windshield) about 2 inches. Ambient air enters the engine bay from the front bumper, is heated by the engine, rises and escapes at the rear of the hood. Rain on the windshield drains as usual.

yeah some pics would be nice. I'm pretty surprised that no one really tapped this topic before. Pretty sure we all thought about the effects of water on electrical components in our engine bay...even something like the MAF sensor. That thing is pretty sensitive and some water could cause engine to malfunction. Vent inserts w/ screws sounds tedious or at least some what time consumiing. Like the idea of velcro. How's does the glue on the velcro hold up to the combination of heat and some water? I'm assuming not much water touches the velcro but the heat is something that cant be avoided.
I have a Seibon VT vented hood, and the drivers side vent sits directly above my Turbonetics turbo, so this makes a huge difference for me as far as under hood temps. As for rain, I'll bet it would have to rain REALLY hard for these vents to actually pose a threat. Your car can tolerate alot more water than you think.
