Default nismo rear spoiler = too heavy?

Anyone else got this problem..

My rear hatch will not 'pop' when i press the button to open the hatch.

I have to press the button with one hand and push the hatch up with the other hand or the hatch will be stuck and wont open.

I am guessing it is because of the extra weight put on from the nismo rear spoiler.. making it too heavy for the stock springs on the hatch to push it up when the buton is pressed.

any solutions?

There is a fix to this. Their is a counter weight in the hatch. hopefully someone can chime in to explain how to remove.

Nissan sells a stronger pair of struts for the rear hatch. I think a search will show a few threads about this. It is common if you have a heavy rear spoiler, especially now that the temps are dropping.

I think this is the part number, 90450-CD010-SP.

You can remove the rear wiper assembly, motor and there is a weight in there, too. I have the entire assembly removed and the weight, but my hatch still doesn't want to pop up.

There is another remedy, which works a little bit. There are 2 springs under the hatch, one on each side. You can twist these spring assemblies off. If you take the plastic piece off of the spring assembly, you can then place a couple of pennies inside and this increases the tension in each spring, aloowing for more force to pop the lid.

be careful adding too many coins, i had 2 coins in mine. The plastic tabs that hold the spring on the hatch were situated in a way that it pushed out a very small ding from the inside to outside. Just be careful when closing the hatch and not to slam it.

It's pretty lame how we would have to replace our shocks just to open our trunk but even after removing the whole assembly the trunk still tends to be too heavy. Nissan i guess didnt know that their own product would cause this.
