Cananyone tel me how the stock shifter is removed. It seems to be very securely attached but does not look like it screws on or off. I posted this question on the Maint / Problems forum without any replies so far.

I don't like the feel of the stock one where the shift pattern insert and the leather ridge meet. I find it irritating after a while.

While I rather like the look of it... I would rather not have the shifter **** burn my hand off after it's been sitting in the parking lot for a good 9 hours cooking in the sun.
