"Door edge guard" front bumper mod driving me nuts!
I'm trying to do the "door edge guard mod" (four horizontal plastic chrome strips over stock front bumper grille), but it's driving me nuts! First, the door edge guard is too damn tight. It took me THIRTY minutes to get ONE of the four strips on! I had to pry it open with my fingers and almost broke my nails. Ouch! Then, just hours later, half of it FELL OFF! So first it was too tight and now it's too lose! What do i do, guys? How do i get these things on and make them stay on?
First you have to use the edge guard meant for trucks, it is bigger/has wider gap...
Before trying to put it on, cut to the correct length, then "notch" the ends one
inch in (from the end), if you want it to follow the "curve"...
Using a blade type screwdriver, "pre-stretch" the gap...open it up some.
This will make the adhesive less sticky (aids installation) as well.
When all done use a few drops of super glue.
Alternative method is to use cable ties.
I did mine the day of delivery, still looks good five months later.

BTW, use the superglue to seal the ends of the strips, not to glue it on your car. If you don't seal the ends, it will "wick" water between the plastic cover and the chrome base and separate.

On the top strip, I installed mine in three pieces so the towhook access part
will still come out. Glued these ends too, but with the access part temporarily removed.

You can see mine in my sig at my cardomain site. I paid freakin' 30 bucks though and just bought them precut on Ebay before I realized you could just get it much cheaper at autozone,

I didn't even use super glue and even put them on the tiny vertical parts of the grill and its still on months later through weather and many washes. Definitely a great way to make the car look much better....and its so cheap
. I've never seen anyone have the vertical parts like mine so I will try to post up pics to show you all what it looks like.

Quick run to Autozone and 25 minutes later...DONE! Looks great. Thanks for the info guys!
Mahont, try to get some pics of the vertical parts up I'm interested to see what that looks like.

Anyone mind posting the model # of the chrome tape used here, the width , or anything that could help you locate it in the store?
Did you get it at AutoZone?
