hehehe... I've seen this one before. A long time ago in fact, when I was considering doing it. I've even got a 1/18th scale Z mocked up this way.
Was well on the way to doing this mod. Custom rod shop and I worked out all the details but one. Where to put the top when it is out.
There is nowhere in the car to put it. Only solution we could come up with was to have the targa be a two piece removable section. Not acceptable for me. One piece lift out or not doing it.
BTW, this is definitely not a cheap mod (if you want to do it right). We spec-ed out the metal work, fabrication of new parts, working in lever mechanisms from another targa top car, reinforcing the roof so it wouldn't flex when it was out, etc, etc. The stowage of the top is the only factor we could not address. Total cost was going to be more than my Vortech purchase and install!

There was like a hundred pound difference between the regular NSX's versus the Targa tops. I'm guessing most of that went into reinforcing the rigidity of the chasis.
If it means adding more weight to make a car a Targa, I'm quite happy with my coupe.
