if it doesnt make the hatch pop up you can try those high performance hatch struts that someone mentioned... no idea where to get em though.

there's always the age-old pennies on the spring trick for the hatch opening problem.

According to the consensus on this board, it serves no other purpose than being a counterweight. You can also check the repair manual to check what that actual piece is for.

Having said that, mine didn't even come with one at ALL.

Here's a link to the 2-penny fix for weak hatch struts: https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/78922-rear-hatch-opening-fix.html

May be the best "bang for the buck" mod out there, if it solves your problem.

If not, there are the Nismo super-duper hatch struts @ $229: http://performancenissanparts.com/ca...oducts_id=1429

After calling around and finding that most shops had to order them from Japan (3-4 weeks), I got mine from Intense Motorsports cuz they had one in stock. Believe that was the only one they had on hand, tho.

$385 plus shipping.

Ok thanks bro. You think that's the best price for this wing or do you think I can find it elsewhere cheaper. I don't mind waiting for it.

You can get your Shocks rebuilt from this company

Ask for Frank and they can help ... cheaper than buying heavy duty shocks

I don't remember seeing any prices that were much different.

If there's a shop where you can make a local pick-up, you could save some $$$ by avoiding shipping. Mine cost $40 to ship via UPS from Phoenix to Los Angeles.

Here is a picture of the data systems wing on my Z. And you won't need new shocks to hold the rear hatch up with this spoiler. My car is also up for sale if anyone is interested.

Hey guys, I took mine out tonight... took maybe 15 mins for the whole thing... used a paint stirrer just like Z BOY did and popped the little clips out, broke one or two in the process, but thats okay, pulled the weight off, that little thing feels heavier than it looks.

My hatch doesnt really seem to popup any different/better than before, but im pleased to have done probably the easiest weight reduction ever.

Default UPDATE - Pix and prices

Here's the final installment in the story...

Price for prep, paint and install was $250. So with the $425 for the wing itself (incl. shipping), the total was $675.

Not cheap, but worth it IMO.

The hatch still pops open OK with the wing installed, but it's obvious that the struts are straining to keep it in the raised position.

On to the next mod...

Expensive, but sweet looking wing... very subtle, its like the stock wings big brother. I like it.
