How hard is this and is there a how to?

very easy. Grab from the top of the pillar, and pull towards the shifter. there are only a few clips that hold them in, but if you havent removed them before, they may not want to give up their turf easily. Just pull to the center of the car and you'll be ok.

I dont think that the airbags will deploy without a signal sent to them. just removing the trim will not simulate a side impact
