Default Idea about relocating trip computer

Don't ask me why I'm so pressed to keep the damn thing. But, I'm planning to replace my gauges when I add boost this summer and would like to go with 3 Dephi gauges in the stock location. But I would like to keep the trip computer. I had the crazy idea of modifing the bottom of the tach and putting it there. I know a real PITA. I have a M/T btw.

Here's another thought isn't there a LCD down there on the autos? Can someone with a auto post pic of your gauge cluster? If there is one, is it roughly the same size as the trip LCD?

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks

I looked into this and it can be done but will be expensive unless you do it yourself. A couple places i came up with are the left hand side of the steering wheel where its aliminum, put the LCD screen in a LIL hood attached right in the bottom of the TAch on the steering column. Mount it in the rearview mirror like the Valentine radar guys do or right below the stereo.

If you have ever taken apart the dash you know that the trip computer and the ancilliary gauges are all one piece. They share a circuit board. It would require significant skill to isolate the trip computer from the gauges and even if you did the piece is still big enough to make it cumbersome.

If you have an aftermarket stereo kit (the one that has the tray under the deck) You could probably relocate it down there with room to spare.

Hope this helps. Good luck and post pics when done!

Thanks guys, I haven't pulled it apart yet. I have a double din unit , but I do like the idea about the mirror. There's got to be a way to isolate the circuit board. Maybe stash the board some where and run long leads to a seperate LCD. I feel like a noob about a/t, but I've never sat in one.

Honestly, I don't believe it's possible. I have apart both pieces and I highly doubt you could make it fit. Here is a thread where I took apart the gauge cluster and posted pics. Hope this helps.
