Default Problem with Hatch

Hey i'm sure someone has already mentioned this but i am having a problem with my '03 rear hatch. Anytime i open it using the keyless or pushing the button near the bumper, i am having to do it more than once to get the actual hatch to open up. I was wondering if anyone else had this same problem and if so any possible solutions, it get kinda annoying after a while....thanks

Yes...That's one of problem with 03' Z...If you are still under warranty, take your car to dealer and they will fix it for you. I had same problem. And I just got it fixed last week..And it works perfect now..

Me too. We should start a club, ZHHHU. Z-Hatch-Head-Holder-Uppers. I really need to look into stronger lifts at some point. I really feel kinda ridiculous.

That seems ridiculous to me. I cannot believe they have not recalled this part. It poses a SERIOUS injury risk. I have had the metal catch part of the hatch SLAM into the top of my head. And it started going bad at like 15k. I cannot believe this part has not been recalled.

Mine has hit my head a few times before. I can't believe they don't have a cold weather solution or offer improved hydraulic tubes. It also has trouble opening as well because I was too lazy to remove the internal weight.

i just posted about the hatch falling on me, i swear people were laughing at me last night at the grocery store. i'm holding the hatch open with my head/shoulder and my cart started to roll away so i'm trying to catch that and balance the hatch on my head at the same time.

Try loading a suitcase, garmet bag, pillows, your girlfriends suitcase... etc... it's humiliating and hurts.

My struts are supposedly being fixed under warranty, but its been a month since the dealer supposedly ordered the new ones. Shouldn't they keep more inventory of a part that fails so much, or does it fail so much, and while still under warranty, that Nissan doesn't provide dealers with the parts?

I don't know about you guys, but my Z is like an incarnation of my '87 200SX SEV6. First the amber interior lighting, and now the hatch that wants to get propped by a metal stick.

it's nice to see that i'm not the only one with the problem. It sux that some are failing to stay open. Luckily i don't have that problem. We'll see, i'm taking the car in for service next week, so we'll see if they can take care of it for me.......

there's a TSB on this issue i believe. i took mine in because those poppers would not "pop up" the hatch. yes, i tried the penny thing and it worked great for about a year. the dealer replaced the hatch shocks and springs. it works ok now. but when it's real cold (below 45) it doesnt pop open on the first try.

it was my LAST warranty repair as i just went over 36000. haha.
