Post Questions about the Zignalz LED Turn Signal Side Emblems - White

I am interested in buying the Zignalz LED Turn Signal Side Emblems - White (Code: 144-01W) but have a few questions.

Question 1: Can any Nissan dealer get them for me?

Question 2: Are the Zignalz a Nissan factory band?

Question 3: Do they work good?, I had a LED badge on a Dodge Durango, and the first time I washed it water got in the badge and it started looking like crap..

Question 4: Should I shop around, or is $165.00 sound about right?

Question 5: I am also interested in LED's for the front and rear Marker Lights, any ideas or info on places.

I just got my 06 350Z Silverstone w/ burnt orange Interior and just want to do upgrades and MOD's right.

Thanks for any info or insight.. This site has been awesome for info on Z's

Answer 1: No, since they are not an OEM part.
Answer 2: Refer to #1.
Answer 3: No idea.
Answer 4: IIRC, Courtesy is the only place selling them.
Answer 5: Use the "Search" function on these forums. Plenty of info. There are many options/e-tailers; two being www.mynismo.com and www.clearcorners.com

#3, I have washed my car a few times with my Zignalz on and they look just like they did when I put them on, perfect. We'll see how they last, I was told the original prototype has been in use for over a year with no paint issues.

The look as though they are an OEM part, even after pointing them out to my wife she had no idea they were different until I made them flash. For people like us who actually pay attention, they are the same size and shape but the center is like a reflector type material instead of the stock silver painted Z.

The parking lamp LEDs are not visible in the day time but put off a nice glow at night.
The flasher lamp LEDs are visible even in bright sunlight and look brilliant at night.

Chris

PS, I'll be at the Dublin Hooters on Sunday if you want to see them in person.

Who is Dublin and why would this guy want to see her hooters?

Sorry man, I couldn't resist. Thanks for the review on Zignalz. I have been very intrigued by them since they came out and my only concern has been whether or not the "Z" looks odd during the day, since its not metallic. Good to know otherwise!

I finally got my Zignalz installed. Install was a snap. the hardest part was getting the gunk off underneath the old badges. You just gotta keep working it with goo-gone and elbow grease. I've got a video of them flashing:

Not everyone's cup of tea, but in the day they look like OEM badges and at night they give a little bit of extra safety (ok, maybe i'm reaching with that one). Actually most other new cars have side marker lights either in the mirrors (that would be a cool mod) or on the fenders. Even the G35 has them, I don't know why they didn't put them on the Zs.

I think the reflector material "Z" would bother me. I like these better:

They're made from OEM emblems and more subtle. Probably not nearly as noticable as a sidemarker signal, though.

In the daytime, 9 out of 10 Z owners don't even notice the emblems are different. I had mine at the Z nationals and I don't think anyone noticed, that could also have been because we were packed in like sardines

mikeg8r, did you have to splice into the wires? How long did the install take? I want these! Looks great on your DB

Yea, hows the install? I can't imagine splicing into a stock wire harness is all that fun.

Nice to see everyone is enjoying the Zignalz.

MustGoFastR,

Courtesy is actually selling the same type you linked for about $30 less now. Also...what do you mean by "reflector material"? Are you talking about the silver part of the emblem? If so, it's hardly noticeable from 5 feet away. You really have to study the emblems to notice that they aren't OEM...except, of course, when they light-up. Most people wonder "When did Nissan start doing that???" ...since they're so stealthy.

The install isn't too bad. As mentioned, the hardest part is getting off the old 2-sided tape. The taps provided are quite easy to use. You just wrap the blue one around the stock wires (color-coded the same as the Zignalz) and clamp down. Then you clamp the red connectors on the Zignal wires after running them inside the fender. The red and blue connectors plug right into each other.

I was just responing to what HyperSprite said about them, regarding the reflector material. I need to see close-up pics of the finished product before I judge, I guess; I just know I'm one of the 1 out of 10 that WOULD notice.

The concept is cool and I like both the Zignals and the ones I referred to above; I just don't know if either are for me. I already have LED modified bumper reflectors (just 3 amber LEDs lining up with the "Z dots" hooked into the parking lights), so adding any sidemarker emblem lights may be too much, IMO.

Ah...I see. Here's a pic of one of them. As you can see (and this is from about 1 foot away), there is a slight hint of the diffusers behind the silver. The only reason you can see it is because if the paint were applied any thicker...it would dim the light. We wanted to allow as much of the flasher to be visible as possible. At the same time though...we needed to make them look silver too. It's a fine line to say the least.

(we are supplying different/more user friendly connectors than the ones in the pic below)

Clarification:
When I said 9 out of 10 don't notice, I meant that most don't even notice they aren't the stock Zs. The 10th person notices they aren't stock but everyone who has noticed them (even if I had to point them out) has liked them so far.

Thx. The install (not including the time to get the old emblems off and old foam tape) took about and hour for one side and about 1/2 for the second (after I figured out what I needed to do).

boogiemike has some excellent instructions on his site (They may be shipping with instructions now), but here are some tips:

Tools I used:
Dental floss to get the old emblem off (Thin fishing line would probably have been easier).
Goo gone and alcohol (the rubbing kind and drinking kind)
Ramps, floor jack and jack stands (to get the wheels off).
21mm standard socket, 6" extender and socket wrench to remove the wheels (and torque wrench to get them back on. Stock lug nuts on mine)
10mm socket for hex head screws, philips screwdriver and a small flat head screwdriver (to get the wheel well cowling off)
slip joint pliers (used to close the vampire taps on the wire leading to turn signals)
crimping tool (used to attach the connectors to the wires coming from the zignalz)

The connectors just push on to the vampire taps, no splicing required and makes for a very clean installation.

TIP: There are several plastic fasteners that you need to remove to get the cowling off. They are easy to remove with a small flat screwdriver and a bit of patience. Slowly wiggle the center peg out from the rest of the fastener and the whole fastener will come out easily.

Seriously, the hardest part is getting the damn gunk off from the original emblems. I'm gonna have nightmares about that for weeks.

Q- Do the ones from "thezstore" blink with the turn signals, like the the others?

Thanks for everyone input

You can either wire them in with the signals or the parking lights (but not both). And as mentioned above, they are cheaper at Courtesyparts.com

For all of them, (Z4 style, 3 led and zignalz) it just depends on how you wire them up. You should be able to wire them to your turn signals and/or your parking lights (so they just stay on when you turn your lights on).

The zignalz have 2 "sets" of LEDs (I don't know about the others). When your parking lights are on, it lights up with a soft glow. This is in whatever color you choose (Amber, Blue, Red, White, Yellow). The other set of LEDs light up when when you use your turn signal. These are bright and are always amber colored (and maybe white) to be street legal I guess, although the packaging says for off-road use only

boogiemike can correct me if i'm wrong about this.

I think there are videos of all the colors in action at the courtesyparts.com website.
