Im down to get a bunch of fellas together and confront those who have mislead you. Im not talking seriously beating someone to a pulp. But with numbers comes confidences and strength..
Lets go find those yahoos face to face and get your money back ASAP. Thats unacceptable on so many levels.
Sorry, to vent, just a body shop is trying to get over on me with my 1978 jeep CJ5..its been 3 years now they want more money and no work has been done...we all need to stand up and fight..I sure am!
I can't believe I just wasted that much time reading through 400 pages of this thread for nothing. What a waste of time.

Not surprised this didn't pan out. I explored this as a possible mod about 18 months ago. I had a custom fabricator in on the deal who specializes in this type of work. There is no way you could do it for $3600 and have it be respectible looking.
My guy was looking at have the roof be removable as one piece (no seem running down the middle), reinforcing the roof so it would not flex when it was out of the car, doing any structural reinforcement to the car itself if necessary, refinishing the inside of the top to give it the appearance of a factory finished piece, ensuring all the latches and seals worked as if factory, etc, etc. This would have been a one-off job and would have cost me $5K-$7K to do it right.
I was ready to pull the trigger on this except for one detail. After several meetings we could figure no way to stow a one piece top in the car when it was off and I definitely did not want a two-piece removal. This was the only thing that derailed the project for me or I'd already be rolling around in a 350Z targa.
