Angry Aerosync N-Style Paint Problem

Has anyone had any problems getting paint to stick to these bumpers? They have had my car for four days now and said their are having trouble getting the paint to stick to this bumper.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hmm, well, all I know is that urethane parts have to be cleaned really well, then a sealer applied, then the paint. Your shop should know that, though...

Yeah I would assume as well, especially since they've worked on my car before and had no problem replacing my oem bumpers with a perfect paint match. Which is the whole reason I brought it back to them.

I was interested in ordering one of these. Guess I am going to hold off for a little while.

Hrm, they bring problems? I have had mine painted for MONTHS, with no problem at all.

I laugh at the people that can't prep the knock offs properly. (nothing against original poster... I'd suggest taking it to a shop that knows how to prep and paint polyurethane. )

I had mine painted by a shop with about 20-30 years of experience. When i asked about getting it painted they told me what they would do like cleaning before the painting. I haven't had any problems yet. I have put about 1k highway miles. They only took 7 days to get it back to me. Be sure they mix enough of that flexible stuff since the bumper is more flexible than oem.

The bumper is pretty good quality and many people on this forum have them. I don't like replicas but polyurethane is much better than fiberglass because the fit should be better and it's more durable.

the fit has NOTHING to do between fiberglass or polyurethane.

The fit can have a lot to do with the type of material the bumper is made from. A fiberglass bumper can differ from the first bumper that comes out of the mold to the very last. Fiberglass can have problems such as warping, waves, etc. That's why many people that get replica fiberglass body kits have the bodyshop fix it to fit right.

If a company makes a polyurethane bumper that fits like oem, then every other bumper that comes out of that mold will fit the same as the first bumper.

The paint is just fine on mine, it does have to primed and sealed properly 1st though. As far as knock off's, these bumpers are worth the money, and I believe they are on sale in the classifieds right now.

Hijack!

I am supposed to be getting mine back today. I hope it turns out correct. I have seen some of these bumpers with metal mesh inlaid in them. Does anyone know what type of mesh that would be or where it can be purchased?

Yeah, I agree with Bubble. Just because its polyurethane does NOT mean it necessarily fits better. But you better hope that it does since you really can't make too many adjustments with polyurethane like you can with fiberglass.

Remember with PU there is a slightly different prep process. The front lip I have is PU, rest of the kit is FG and I know the shop mentioned the adhesion process is different. Any experienced shop should know how to deal with this as most factory parts are PU.

I'll try to ask them when I pick the car up today what exactly is different.

Well it looks like they've figured it out cause they said its ready to pickup today. I'll takes some pictures when I get a chance and post them with my new wheels.

I'll also see what they say about the prep and paint process (and what troubles they were having) and post back when I get a chance.

Thanks for the input guys.

I recall GruppeS posting that you should leave the bumper out in the sun for a couple of days that it helps to "cure" the plastic or something. Which makes sense if the bumper is shipped in a sealed container right after manufacture.
