Default It's finished

Got the call today and my My Daytona wing is all finished with paint and I pick it up Friday. I will post pics of it installed on my '06 redline Saturday.

Any specific angles you guys wanna see?

When, this weekend? There a link to it? With the whole M-day thing I'm going to be busy, plus I gotta mount the spoiler Saturday, unless I can find time Friday to do it.

It's this Sat.12pm @ Fremont. If you can't make it, no worries. Just wanted to see it in person. If you can, great! Here's the link:

BTW...just take some shots of the rear from an angle, directly behind, top-rear, & profile is a good start .

Hmmm well they did an ok job painting the spoiler but after I started removong about 3/4's of the interior panel it was becoming clear that drilling holes in my new Z was concerning me.

By looking at things it looks like I will end up having to drill thru 2 layers of sheet metal spaced about 3/4's apart, the exterior layer and the inner frame layer that that panel attaches to, which means the screws supplied are going to be way short. No biggie can just pick up some longer ones but I don't believe this is the way it's intended to be drilled and bolted.

The instructions make it sound like there is only one layer to drill thru ( the outer skin) and you're suppose to use "access holes" to get the screws into the threads on the spoiler. Only problem is the things they consider access holes on the inner panel are about 1" off centered from the holes on the spoiler, which means you would have to drill thru both the outer hatch sheet metal and the inner support sheet metal.

Somebody who mounted a Lemans wing said the holes just barely tucked the mounting screws inside the interior plastic finish panel and I can see that on the daytona it is exactly the same, it is hard to tell if it will tuck inside the panel or not.

This is the same kind of cheesy thing I had to do when mounted a Mustang spoiuler lomg time ago, having to drill thru both layers of sheet metal. That car was a used one with a much lower blue book value and not a new 30 g's car, so it didn't bother me to do that to the Stang.

Long story short I need to find something to remove all of the NXT wax from the paint in that area and tape the **** and pray for the best.

The tape sticks so strong to the spoiler that the sticky stuff is stronger than the foam, so if I can remove all the NXT wax, it should work ok.

Just use Dawn dishwashing detergent it has a lot of alkalines in it, it will remove any wax and not harm the clearcoat.

Default Damn

I spent a while test/dry fitting the spoiler with the tape and I'm going to have to go ahead and bolt the thing on. The spoiler is not a 100% perfect fit and in order to press out one end well , the other will not contact the lid correctly.

The other thing that concerns me is if it's not set in place perfect the first attempt, I'm pretty much screwed because it will be a royal pain to remove and as cheap as Nissan paint it, I'm afraid it will take the paint off the car while trying to unstick and reposition. Can't really tell if the ends are where they need to be unless it's all prssed out all the way around and when it's stuck in position, is the wrong time to find out that "oh it should have been 1/8" more that way instead."

Also my concern is that some day down the road it may simply fall off on a summer day and wind up in the grill of the car behind me, most likely a riced out Honda . Or worse a biker

If the spoiler was a perfect fit, tape would be a good way to go but since it's a tad out of whack, gonna have to drill. At least this way I will never have to worry about it falling off and I can tweak it and position it perfectly.

The rear end view of the redline with it in place looks much better than without the spoiler. Makes the car look wider and the fender flares stand out more
