I searched but did not find.

Within the next month or so I want to have a new stereo system installed into my 2006 Z. I am waiting for delivery of a 10" fiberglass sub enclosure from Wicked C.A.S. that fits in the compartment behind the passenger seat, and if possible I would like to have the amp installed in the compartment behind the drivers seat. (NOTE: I currently have the standard, Non-Bose factory stereo).

So my question has two parts: A) Is there empty space behind the plastic molding that is behind the driver's seat (where the Bose subwoofer would go), and B) is it possible to remove just the rectagular panel that covers this supposed space? Obviously I will need to remove this panel to install/access the amp, but I was also considering replacing the solid panel with the Bose system panel with the speaker grille built in to allow the hot air from the amp to escape the compartment. Should be a direct drop-in replacement, right?

Anyways, if someone out there who knows a lot more than I do could post up some suggestions I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance!

That panel pops right out. I have a black wire loop connected into the plastic re-inforcement ridges that hangs out the front. This loop allows me to pull that panel whenever I want. I'll go out on a limb and say that any amplifier that you can fit in there will get enough cooling air as to not trouble it nor require extra holes cut. That area is big and surounded with heat loving metal. There is a large enough air passage in the subwoofer grill that I don't bother. I do have a tiny 12 cu.ft./min fan installed between my pair of amps blowing a whisper of air across them.

 

^^I prefer the "credit card or Driver's License slide" method. This way no one sees the little loop and begin to wonder what's behind the panel.

 

Thanks for the reply and pictures man! I'm guessing you had to fabricate that white colored tray/platform and mounting brackets yourself...? I'm getting the system professionally installed basically so I can avoid doing all the wiring and stuff, but if there are any pieces required like that I will try to fab them up ahead of time to avoid paying the ridiculous shop rate.

I'm tall enough that the seat is all the way back against the sub-woofer hole. You have to climb in the car and activate both the seat controls and wait while the motors move the seat forward ... not many people wander around and do that!

 

That's about $10 worth of hardware from HomeDepot. The wood is "hobby board" which is just really finely finished plywood. I started to use the wood as a template for an aluminum one that may follow later. The straps are just huricane/earthquake re-enforcements.
