I want to paint my Plenum to match my strut bar's Silver. I lucked out when I purchased my K&N Typhoon in silver, it was a perfect match to the strut bar and I really like the Monochromatic theme my Engine bay is starting to take on.

Anyone know of a semi-flake silver paint that withstands high temps in a rattle-can?

Would you be interested in a Powder Coated one? Color match would be about identical and we polish the plenum before they get powder coated so end result is a smooth glossy finish.

what do u need to polish a stock plenum to something really shiny??? how much do u need to sand and with what grit. i know it can be polished...anyone with any info???

Cost would be around $200.00 not including a core charge. Alot of the cost comes from the hours of prep to smooth the plenum.

Well i mean 200.00 i think would be good. I mean, i could send you my plenum. I dont drive the car much so a 200 dollar option would be a great price.

No sand blast but it does get a bead blast as a final step to clean any impurities so the powder coat has a good surface to adhere to. Color options are pretty extensive too so what ever color you can think of let me know.

The shinny one that we are working on now is going to cost more though as it is a more expensive coating and has to be sent out to a different shop than our powder coater. Once we get ours back and we are pleased with the results we will be able to offer that as well and I think you guys and gals are going to really like it.

Yea im sure. How smooth does the surface of it have to be before a powder coat? is it like the same as auto refinishing??? or a little ruffer? or less.. possibly less since i assume u charge the plenum. then charge the paint and it sticks..

if you guys could some how offer just polished plenums for around 200 buks and still make a profit you will make a killing imo.

It needs to be pretty smooth, not mirror finish but smooth. I'd say the same as auto refinishing, at least they get to use Bondo. Both the powder coat and the shinny coat are only about 1/100th of an inch thick, maybe less, not thick enough to bury imperfections. It's going to be a real nice piece for sure and could have some added performance benefits as a bonus. That's the most I should really say about the shinny one for now till we get the first one back for evaluation.

you probably don't need high-temp paint.

I painted mine last year with rustoleum hammered aluminum.

still looks great, with no peeling or flaking. just clean the plenum really well first.

i'll post pics tomorrow when I get my car back

I've polished many small projects such as my stock strut bar along with the repolishing of my greddy strut bar, greddy diversion plate, injen heat plate for the filter...etc with really beautiful chrome like results.

So I thought why not tackle my plenum, boy was that difficult.
I gave up after about 3 hours and only had a fraction of the plenum smooth enough for polishing.
Moral of the story- Do not attempt to polish the plenum unless you have plenty of experience and the PROPER tools for the job, it can be hell to polish the plenum.
I had to give to someone to polish professionally for about 200.00
and it took him about 3hrs to get it looking like chrome
