Default Street Scene Grill CRAP!!!!!

I just installed my Street Scene grill, from Strictly Z, last night, after clay bar, paint cleaner, poilsher and wax. It looks great out of the box, but the fit is horrible and the clips to attach suck!! The clips push in the open spaces in the grill and attach the black plastic horizontal grill members. I installed clear zip ties and then removed the included clips.

To anyone buying this grill,

1. Test fit the grill with no clips.
2. Make sure it fits flush against the stock grill, if not gently bend the metal.
3. With a helper, holding the grill in place, use clear heavy duty zip ties to secure, at least 8 on top and 6 on bottom.

You can see the ties at 5 feet, but they look better than the clips, and at 10 feet away it looks great. I'll post pics this week.

If anyone knows a better way, please reply to save someone else the trouble.
I am going to call Strictly Z and find out if this is common or if I need a new one sent.

Well I installed mine with the clips and the only problem I had was having to bend some of the edges slightly to fit, particularly at the ends mainly on the upper corner, I wouldn't call it crap though. The clips are probably hard to install if the bumper is on, I had the bumper off as I was doing the Injen intake install as well. Here is a pic and as you can see it looks pretty clean.

StriclyZ.com is sending me out a new grill, I should get it any day, now. They have said others have had problems and are deciding whether to continue selling the grill. But, they have been great with customer service and I will definitely keep ordering from them.

Westpak, after originally seeing your install a while ago, I ordered mine. Why is it necessary to take off the bumper to install? My problem was that the grill fit was bad so the clips did not hold the warped grill onto the stock.

Personally, I would like to see someone come out with a all chrome grill like the stock grill. These grills I am seeing are just not classy....

You don't have to take the bumper off, but after installing the grill with the bumper off I could see where it would be easier, you can have better leverage to push the grill in place and more leverage also to put force on the clips to get them hooked on right, I agree the fit is not 100% and you have to play with it a bit, it just seems that with the bumper off it might be easier to manuever it, I don't think the second grill will be much better you will probably still have to play with it.

This is the Stillen Grill, Street Scene makes it. If you check on the Stillen site it says it is the Street Scene grill.

I think these grills are the ones that are crap - http://www.grill-tech.com/

I made the mistake of buying one and not only did they rip me off in postage (charging me $12 to ship when it only cost them $4.50) but the grill has a sloppy fit. Attachment is done using those zip ties.

I ended up taking it off.

I agree, just looking at the pictures and some of the installs I thought it looked cheap, this street scene one looks even better in person as it has some thickness to it and fits much better.

Yep, the Grille-Tech ones are VERY thin. They're durable material, but definitely not as thick as other manufacturers.

I think I have to start learning to not buy the first thing I see and shop around. <<kicking myself>>

Well simstad hope this helps, here are some closeups. The first ones are of the top and where the clips are, the last one is of the bottom but as you can see it shows nothing as the clips are not visible there. As I mentioned during the call do a trial fit and see where the grill is not laying down properly and you might have to bed the ends a little bit to get it to fit into the opening but also around the horizontal slats of the stock grill, then start with clips at one end and work your way to the other end. Also put the flat edge of the clip toward the inside part of the bumper. The car is dirty, those aren't chips.

Westpak,

Thanks for the help, I can see now how it is easier to install from the back with the bumper off. The pics really help.

If you need anything let me know.

It looks like those clips will end up damaging your paint over time.
Do they have some sort of coating on them?
