Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to match a light color without blending? I dropped off my new Areosync bumper yesterday and my fuel door. I had no problem when he told me 4 hrs prep labor and 4 hrs paint labor @ $65 an hour. Bottom Line $551.20 and I have to install it. Fine. Now today they say they cant make the match because so many variances. Now they want to blend the fenders and stuff and charge me $1100 something and I still have to install the bumper myself. I have to call them back and tell them what I want them to do.

This place is very popular and is not some hole in the wall shop

VENTING Any suggestions? Is $1100 normal for getting a new bumper painted to match the rest of the car without install?

dude from experience i dont like anyone who changes their word. they quoted it and if they were a repitable company they would do whatever they have to do to finish the job the quoted. that is not your fault they misquoted. also what color is your car. if it is a stock color and they cant match that is BS. i would pull your kit and take it elsewhere.

 

I took my ings 1/2 lip and daytona spoiler to Econo and they sprayed it for $250 and I did the prep and install. They sprayed it with Dupont QX1 PPW. I left them my factory spoiler so they could match it and they did a darn good job. However, it does help the matching if you blend it, although with just my lip and spoiler I wasn't to concerned but with a whole bumper it might be a different story. I figure they would've charged me $400 for prep and paint. So, I think the price is fair but its your call weather they blend it or not. Also, If you do get other prices those shops will probably want to see the bumper which = PITA.

 

Depends on the paint brand they are using. If they are using the same paint as Nissan then they should have no problem. However most places don't so I can see where the color would be slightly off. You will have this problem with just about every paint shop I have been to. Blending is the proper way. However this should have been layed out on the table to begin with not afterwards.

 

ask them to use PPG (autocolor). It will match right away.

 

What's the color code? Is it WV2, KY0 or K25?

It sounds like they are being lazy and don't feel like trying the different variances of the blends. If they are as reputable as you say, they should have an electronic device called a "spectrophotometer". It can read the color and automatically give the best paint match.

Looking at my formulas, there are:

WV2: 6 formulas/variances
KY0: 6 formulas/variances
K25: 1 formula

The different formulas adjust different things with the paint as far is adding blue tint, or yellow tint in order to make it lighter or darker.

One thing you could do (this will lower the cost for you) is go to an auto paint supplier with your fuel cover. They should have a spectrophotometer to scan the piece and come-up with the closest match. Then, have them pre-mix it and bring the paint to the body shop. You'll be supplying the paint, so they'll need to only charge for labor and reducer and clear.

Also...PPG is like the "Sears" brand of paint. It's good paint, and reliable, and will hold-up if applied correctly, but it's lacking in the "WOW" category.

 

If you want a perfect match i believe you have to get the fenders blended, etc. I got my silver alloy painted for $350 from a friends bodyshop. The paint match is pretty close but not exact. If i were you i would take it to a shop that you trust and get it painted there. The difference shouldn't be as if you have a silverstone bumper on your silver alloy but if you look closely you will can tell there is a difference in shade, etc.

 

as long as they match 100% as OEM then it is good. Other brand MIGHT give you the "WOW"..but wait, what kind of WOW? Wow..you're dumb to pay more the same color? haha j/k Mike.

not true. i use ppg and it doesnt always match.

to the OP. silver and white are THE HARDEST COLORS to match. its easy as hell to match red, blue, black etc but the silvers are sooo damn hard. thats why u always see the problems with the silvers and body kits. you can match it very close but a 100% match is really tuff unless u paint the entire car.. you can try to tint but still its really hard to match silvers unless your painter has been painting for decades and has color tinting mastered.

BTW ! Fuel door is not the same color as the rest of the car... ( It was that way on mine.) All the plastic parts are slightly different. I got in a little accident and I had to repair my rear fender. Two body shops could not match the color! I got so pissed that I had my car custom painted by a hot-rod shop to match my VOLK rims. Aslo my antena, rear wiper and two little holes from the burger are GONE

 

yep. the shades are gonna be diff on the bumpers because one has underlying metal and one is a type of plastic which will change the way the paint looks. if you look at the car stock from the facroty none of the panels match anyhow to begine with on the silvers...

it will gives you 96 to 97% match. The kind of match that you don't see 2 different color when you take picture. To get 100% match, you will have to blend it since bodykit is plastic/fiberglass compare to metal.

Well Its being painted and not blended . I will post a pick when I pick it up on monday and after the install.

By the way, If it doesnt match to my liking can I go back and get it blended at a later date?

i suggest that you tell them to blend it on the first time around b/c they will charge u later if u have them repaint it and blend at a later date cuz they will have to respray the fenders... blending is just respraying fenders at a sail line.

Okay They have two samples to show me I will have to go on monday. I asked them what kind of paint they use and he told me sikems or something that sounds like sickems over the phone. He said it is the best paint you can by and that alot of places wont use it because of the price. Sounds good to me.
