Does NE1 actually know if we can get/use the JDM keys with remote built in to them?
I have seen some threads about this key from Japan, but no definate answers are out there.
1: Can we get this key from Japan? japanparts.com?
2: Can it be used with our cars and how?
TIA

Can someone please post actual pics of the key? Im very interested to see what they look like for real.
I have the tech book and there are black and white sketch drawings of the key, but no actual pics of them
Thanks.

you can use the key, you just need to tape your regular key inside the steering wheel next to the ignition. this allows the computer to see the "right" signal...
this of course defeats one of the security features of the car.

oh ok, so that was the problem. but just curious, but the security feature is a small transponder located within the plastic of the current key right? so what if you removed that circuit and just put it into the japanese key? security feature remains in place, and all is right with the world.
assuming you can remove the transponder unharmed(and dont mind butchering your key, they are like 100$ or something) and theres room in the japanese key to insert it.

Check out this link, the pic of the keyes is in this thread. On page 2 there is a bigger pic of them also.

Wouldn't this key have a chip in it already? It would have to be programmed to match the car just like if you lost your keyes and needed new ones?

Actually after seeing the key i dont understand what the big desire is? its just lock and unlock on the key. Is it really that big a hassle to have the fob anyways? And if you dont have the keyfob how would you activate your trunk release (other than unlocking your doors and pushing the pop release) or use the panic function? I personally find it easier to just hit the trunk pop on the fob and already have my trunk open with one button.
Also, im not sure who or where this could be done, but there is a company in hong kong that does the mass producing of all the merc/audi/vw switchblade key/fob combos. It would have to be a massive group buy to make a minium order, but they will sell teh fob with the correct frequency on the remote part and correct "blade" for the actual key part. Only part we would have to get around is the transponder. We could just use a generic transponder box with a key in it, wired to our break light so that the transponder activates when you press your break pedal.
Manual guys have to do this anyways, and it doesnt hurt an automatic tranny to do this either. Theres always a way around simple things that a lot of people wouldnt even think of. Hard part is getting the actual keys or parts were lookin for. But if the JDM key has the same blade as the USDM key, and you jsut want it for looks then use your key you have now for the transponder and use teh new key for show, but dont expect teh remote to function due to the frequencies that are used in japan.

It was just an idea, the key fob is pretty big for the Z. As far as the trunk release, there probably is some way to use the JDM key to open the trunk, maybe a combo of the keys or something.
Like I said, this was just a pipe dream.
