Default Oh god.. help me!

So i've been having problems with my windor motor, and stumbled upon the thread in which it says you have to take it apart and clean it. Started last night, but it got dark really quickly and i had to stop. I figured i'd be able to do it in an hour or two this morning... not! I've been at it for like 5 hours and ended up missing work. In the end, it turned out what my old motor was simply burnt down. Luckily i have a new one, but then i had the brilliant idea of swapping the brush assemblies and returning the new motor (hey, they made this junk, let them pay for it!). Unfortunately, now i can't put it back together again and i can't figure out why because i've done it 10 times today! You guys know the thing with the magnets that the brushes sit inside? The copper-colored one? Well, its held down to the motor by 3 little screws and for the life of me, i can't get it down all the way so that it sits flush on the motor and can be bolted down! No matter what i try, it always ends up a few mm above and even though i could probably bolt it, the motor will obviously burn out this way. I even tried attaching the new brushes/cap to the old motor AND the new one, and the old ones to both as well, but i just can't get the damn cap all the way down to the black plastic! What the hell? I'm genuinely dumbfounded.

no offense buddy, but sounds like Karma is at work here. Should have just put the new motor in and been done with it instead of trying to screw somebody over. Now it seems like you're screwing yourself over. That said, good luck. I can't help you, but good luck.

Are you sure your using he correct screws? I'm looking at the service manual and I don't see that you're missing anything. You may want to get a copy online and see if you can figure it out.

BTW... this is a **** poor reason to call out from work.

Not really. 350Z window motors are known for being absolute and utter ****. I remember someone saying that at least 80% will need to be replaced. We shouldn't have to pay for them, but right now, not only do we have to pay for the motor, but if we're not willing to dedicate hours upon hours of our own free time to do the work, we have to pay them to replace it as well. Where's the justice in this?

Its not even the screws, man. I didn't get to that part yet. Before i can use them, the metal cap has to be flush to the plastic part which its supposed to get attached to by the screws. Right now, its about 3-4mm off! Oh both the old AND the new motors. I'm utterly clueless what happened, as i've actually reassembled the old one a few hours earlier without having this problem. But now, it just won't go in all the way. Its like there's something stuck in the bottom of both motors. It makes absolutely no sense.

Maybe the brushes are different sizes from motor to motor so it makes for a bad fit on both? Is the brush the only piece that you swapped over?

Nothing in the way... can't take a pic cuz the cam is dead. Picture this: only two parts in my hand. One is the plastic motor with the hole, the other is the metal cap with the drill-looking piece that goes into the hole. When i stick one into the other, instead of going all the way in, i'm left with a gap.

See, that's the thing. I can't even reassemble the old motor now. I've tried the new brushes AND the old brushes in BOTH motors and i get the exact same result with all 4 combinations. Blows my mind.
