Yeah it does look fukin sweet. I just heard that it's hard to get done cause theres alot of things that could **** up the car because of balance or something. But yeah you have the money go for it. It will look sweet.

I heard the car was designed as a convertable first to make sure the chassis would be strong enough as a convertable. If that said being true then there should be little additional reinforcement for the convertable over the coupe. I am willing to bet the coupe chassis is strong enough to handle the missing roof without adding major reinforcements.

about 8Gs...do a search my car was supposed to be the first Z to have a targa but there were complications as far as money was concerned. The guy wanted deposits and didn't get them so then he wanted me to pay 8gs and I didn't really feel like doing that. So if you want it bad enough it can be done with about 8gs and a month or so w/o the Z.

Heck, I would even like to see a removable center section of the roof to keep the side "rails" for structural rigidity. Make it out of c/f and you have an even added benefit of weight reduction and a lowering of the c/g. Might be esier to do as well.

It shouldn't cost 8k, or maybe a better way of saying it, you could probably find a reputable shop to do it for less. If done correctly it wouldn't have a negative impact on the car. You loose body stiffness by removing the roof. One way to counteract this would be to install a full roll cage to improve body stiffness, another would be to improve bracing underneath the car in the frame. Both methods would cost something, although I think the roll-cage would be much more affordable.

Once my car is paid off I'm thinking of undertaking this. I have a brother that's an engineer who can build all of the CAD and solidworks diagrams I need, fabricate the necessary parts and weld. Essentially that's really all you need, (plus finishing work, paint rubber molding for sealing the roof, etc..) which I can easily do. My old man has a Targa Top car that has provided a good "base" to generate ideas from.

If you can do it yourself then yes it can be done for less...You want a reputable shop to do it with R&D then expect to pay about 8 grand...Like someone said I can do it with a chainsaw...

Well when I get out of school, '08, I'm going to buy the cheapest piece of junk car and experiment on it. If it works out I'm going to convert the Z. I've cut up a few cars so I don't see it being that bad.

It does look good and i have contacted several bodyshops in my area. Most of them will not even attempt it, one said that they could try with NO guarantee that it would turn out good. They said it would be difficult to quote a price so i dont have any idea of cost. At least i know IF i had the money that someone MIGHT be able to do it.
