After this years HIN in DC.. I prolly wont be attending another one again.... Unless one of my sponsors foots the bill/needs me there.. if that happens I'm going to place a "do not judge" placard on the window.

As for trailering my car, dude I love driving my Baby WAY to much to trailer her. We have a pretty good relationship... I buy her everything she needs to stay pretty and give her the best alcohol I can find (when I don't she gets made and blows up..) In return she does what I ask of her with little complaint and beats the **** out of anything on the road that dares comment on her fat looking rear.

HAHA, thats true. Even if you don't win... you have something to fall back to.

I also like to give my baby everything she WANTS... not just needs. I like to finger the tailpipes so they're extra clean and she always screams when I push her too hard. She loves making me feel good by the time Im done with her.

It's partly who you know. I can pretty much garauntee I have more money invested in "show mods" than just about anyone else I know and I didn't place at HIN Orlando at all, but took 2nd in All Asian Wild at NOPI this year.

I'll email my judging sheet from HIN to anyone that wants to see it

Dude, I just got back from NOPI Nationals and got nothing. In this case I think it has more to do with competing against Sponsor cars with unlimited budgets, but the gist is the same. Major Corporate shows are not for the Average Joe.

Which car was yours man? I must have missed it at Atlanta this last weekend.

I have over 100K in my car (Show and Performance) and still get nothing at shows. And I think my stuff is pretty good, people are always telling me so on the street and at all the shows. But it can’t compete against a company that builds car as a business or against people that have unlimited money/time/resources.

I havent been to a car show like HIN, Irev, or any car show for that matter for just that reason. The best part of a car show was the drive to and from the location, oh and the models.

Damn, after reading some of the post on here, 100K in mods puts in you in that category of "unlimted funds", lol.

sorry it sounds harsh but when Greg at Injected and I sat down and thought up the 430Z we did it to represent his company and what we could do... not for the judges and it cost us throphies but we still kept the respect. Alot of times the judges go around the night before and hand pick who they think should win before they ever talk with the owners (sometimes you can get yourself extra points, but most times it's yada, yada).

it's been said a million times and a few times in thsi thread... if you show, show for yourself not for throphies... I love to show and love to go to the shows but I have to bbuild cars that I would drive.
Whammie-

I've always wanted to ask how much power that 4.3l custom single turbo setup put down. I've seen a lot of pics of it but they never actually released any numbers. Care to fill us in now that the project is done and over?

If you visited the Toyo Booth you saw my car, but don't think that companies paid for everything...part of what wins shows is originality. I happen to have the only bodykit of its kind on my car right now which helps. You can look anywhere and see ings/veilside/various lip kits and for daily driving, practical uses etc that's great..but building a show car is different. I don't wanna thread jack but this is my show car:

LemanZ, you have a valid point and I guess that is sort of the point I reached. I see no point in going to or entering shows if they only acknowledge cars that are PURE show cars and not anything that a tuner can put on the street. A display car is fine to show the possibilities, but if you are trying to sell to the Average Joe public they have to be items that can be street driven.

I guess what if boils down to is that my car is driven all over the country; north->south/east->west just for fun, or vacations or even for business. I can not put a top secret widebody kit on my car if damaging it is going to cost me $$$$ to repair (in fact I was told personally by Top Secret they did not want me to buy their widebody kit because it would be too easy to damage) nor any other type of rare/exotic stuff if it will not survive normal street use. These shows should not encourage people to 'Enter your car' because you can never win against display cars. These types of cars should either be in their own category or not do judging of the Average Man'’s cars.

Anyway, you definitely have a great looking car. I swung by Toyo's/Advan’s/Nitto's booth looking for some new tires and discovered another thing: No one wanted to sell me new tires... They all told me to go to TireDiscount and order them online... How is that for effective marketing/sales. I thought they were there to sell stuff, not defer me to someone else for another time. WTF. People ask me all time what wheels/tires I use to keep all of the power to the ground. I would think someone might be interested in selling me their latest and greatest super sticky street tires. Crap, it is not like I am asking for sponsorship, I just want the best possible tires possible for a 600 hp rwd car.

Enough of my ranting.
Peace,

Guys, with all due respect let's be realistic here. The "tuner" market thrives on modifications. The scoring system under NCCA rewards you for modifications and ONLY requires you to drive it into the display forum. The more mods the better. The more "customized" the better. For the most part, the public attending a tuner car show wants to see very different custom stuff; cars that they do NOT see on a daily basis.

This is a VERY different market from the luxury/exotic market. People go to those shows cause they don't see those cars on a daily basis. That market also does much more testing and engineering of its aftermarket products.

Brent, I need to get you a few drinks this weekend.

Overall presentation to judge
Talking skills - 10 points MAX

As you can see there are GHey points involved for talking to the judge.... I don't even know why this is a factor, but it is... so if you're not around when they judge your car, you're already 10 points down. If you're a buddy of a judge, i'm sure you;ll BS with him a bit and get ten points, its total crap that section....

BUT notice how many points you can get for interior!!! That's actually a lot of points, so if all you have is a pair of upgraded seats, and a few nick nacks, you're missing out on boat loads of points.

ALSO, you get no points for display, so look at my last setup fromHIN LA;

big setup, no extra points....

And cleanliness is only part of it.... I clean my whole undercairrage, i take off each wheel prior to the show, and thoroughly clean the suspension, brakes, fender liner, arms, under panels, etc... doesn't help too much at HIN

I still argue the fact that you cannot JUDGE A CAR SHOW IN THE DARK!!!!!
I go only to support my team and sponsors, otherwise you would never catch me at these ghey shows..... and i love shows too....

Kall, Thank you for that breakdown. That is definitely good information for the original poster.
Nice looking setup too man.

Also, i do recomend to remove a wheel at car shows if it's possible, even just one wheel alone can make a big difference at some shows, because it allows the judge to see more detail. but make sure everything is clean as can be or they'll also notice dirt which can hurt your points just a tad bit.

Other shows like Extreme Autofest look more at exterior mods, vs interior. with them, paint quality and care are just as important as interior mods are with HIN. SO it all depends.

And yes, every show you go to will be biased in some way, shape, or form. Every show is corrupt at some level, and at every show some people win who do not deserve it, no matter who throws the show, or who organizes it. Just the way the wheels rolls.....

you also are not allowed to look at your scoresheet unless you are a paying NCCA member, which I also think is not a good idea. From what I hear on top of that, is if you are an NCCA member the rumor is that you get free points since u are a paid member. Looking at the scoring sheet, there's plenty of room to sway a homies car into the winners circle....

Very good point Kall. I am way to lazy to take a wheel off though.
