Default Need advice on rear hatch shocks

Hey, so I have a common problem with the rear hatch shocks not being able to hold up the hatch. I'm just wondering if anyone has a quick diy to keep it up for a car show as I want to show the system in the hatch. Thanks!

I Think if you Remove the inside Plastic Liner on the Hatch carefully with small screwdrivers ,then there are weights bolted on with a # 10 screw/ socket, I Found this out when installing My New Nismo Rear Spoiler. and moved the weights and the Hatch kept droping down on me with the wiight of the new spoiler ?? also had to do the penny thing to adjust for opening the hatch,, see earlier foram

here a quick cheap fix I had to do for a show cause of the hatch keep dropping on me. and I had never had that happen before so I use some tape and tape where the rod and shaft meet. it helps. just make sure the judge dont see it.haha

I think I know what you are talking about. Must have been some strong tape. What kind did you use?

it probably wouldn't fly in a car show, but I just use half of a pool stick to hold my hatch open for extended periods.

I use some duck tape cause that all I had at the car show.. just a small strip. but you might try electric tape so it will match the black damper.

there is a clamp that is used specifically for holding gas lifters in an open position, but i am not sure where to get it. I used them all the time on E 30 BMW hoods at work.... they had a nasty habbit of falling on you

yeah you can use clamp but that would just look ugly for a car show. haha or you can do this. one of my friend has this really old car. and his dampers went out. so he bought a tube and slip it over the damper. so when he open the hatch he would slide the tube to the top and rest it on the outer part of the shock.
