Default Z is fat??? No way!

I just put it on the landscaping scale (digital, probably good to within 10 or 20 lbs). I don` t know how or why, but the car is about a 100 lbs less than I`d expected.

2003 Perf. model, 6 sp.
Cloth seats, no power adj.
No BOSE
No Nav, etc.
Does have VDC, Ltd slip, the beefy/extra mat in the hatch, floor mats, all standard Perf. options, etc.

Weight mods: Track rims, 15lb pc 680 battery, 15 lb UR flywheel, no spare/jack. Total savings = -110lbs

Grand total with me in the car: 3330.

MINUS me 195lbs, minus a bit over a 1/4 tank (4-5 gallons? @ 7-8lbs each?) =

3095 plus or minus 10 or 20 lbs.

I thought I`d be around 3200-3225.

Nice.

I've read the 2004 Track curb weight is around 3225lbs..

So 20gal x 8lbs = 160lbs. 3225 - 160 = 3065lbs

Your Perf. model isn't far off...

Edmunds:
Curb weight is the weight of a vehicle with all equipment and all vital fluids, plus a full tank of gas. Gross weight is the maximum weight a vehicle can carry, including its curb weight.

I'll get mine on a CAT scale eventually... I've been curious myself.

Default Weights

I believe the curb weight - with a tank of gas, etc, is around 3335 for an older track and 3350-3375 for a newer model. Mine would be roughly 3175 with a full tank, so I`m happy with the 175-200ish pounds of savings. Rear drive, built like tank (thanks fx35), and equipped with some weighty options: ltd slip, VDC toys, 18`` rims, etc,...Not a bad overall weight.

The `efficiently engineered/minimalist` RX8 is only about 50lbs under my car. No wonder it`s several steps back in a straight line - similar weight, not similar power.

1 gallon of mogas(pump gas) = 6.5 pounds IIRC from my days in the army as a petroleum fuel supply specialist.

Default Less is more!

Update on the (light) weight. I just got on a used JIC ti single exhaust`` with resonator (I`m not gonna go deaf to save 6 lbs!). I like the look and idea of a single, plus it sounds fantastic and supposedly gives solid power gains.

So, 3100 - another 40lbs shed. No gas, but everything else in there. Haven`t purged the blinker fluid yet... Still run a full 5qts of synthetic too

So, now, I`m a bit curious about light seats. A search didin`t reveal much about:
1. The weight of a stock cloth , non-power seat.
2. The weight of some light aftermarket seats (Bride, etc).

Anyone out there know about either of the above?

I think it`d be pretty slick to say ``2999``one day , but I won`t break the bank or eardrums to do it.

Any ideas on weight savers that don`t sacrifice audible aesthetics, safety, or the bank? I`m not sold on aftermarket cats or tp`s due to rasp, stink, etc.

on the title my car (03 Track) is listed at like 1075 or something. I should have weighed it before I put the kit on...I will weigh it after the kit/wheels and see how much it goes up.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong ... I'm pretty sure the Driver's seat (powered leather) weighs 41 lbs and the passenger 47. You can get Sparcos that weigh 14 lbs a piece. Should be around 60 lbs in savings.

Default Thanks Dutch

Seems like if your seats numbers are accurate, I`d better stick with the metal bits. I`ve shaved more weight for less money with the exhaust (used), battery (ok, that`s not exactly metal), etc.

Thanks for the help all!

PS I`ve got Hotchkis sways and springs coming, but I don`t think that`s a big weight change over stock. ``Big change`` being, oh, 25 lbs or more

hm.. depends on how you implement the side mounts and rails.

my sparco evo 2 racing buckets weigh ~15 pounds, the side mounts custom welded to the rails weigh another 5+ pounds its still significantly lighter than stock seats.

the real kicker is all these people do so much to do weight reduction, they forget about themselves... dont eat a couple of burgers a month and work out three times a week and you're car will be faster!! hah

If you are that low already, you could prolly get close to 2999 by draining some unnecesary fluids and gutting the hatch!
