I've recently moved from Washington to Canada and am in the process of installing daytime running lights (mandatory). It's been a nightmare to say the least. The dealership is now in the process of correcting their mistakes (long story... highlighted by the fact that my car wouldn't turn off unless you turned the lights off, ie. you could drive the car without the keys as long as the lights were on). I can't remember what the old setup was like though. I have a simple question. Do the parking lights remain on in the "2" position, or do they shut off when you switch from "1" to "2"? If I'm reading my manual correctly, it says the parking lights should be on in both "1" and "2", but I could have sworn it was only on in "1", ie. only the HID bulbs and side markers were on in the "2" position.
