Just a quick heads up for you all, I recieved a test set of hood shocks from a friend of mine who works with NRG. these are NOT modelled after Tein shocks...

The fitment is pretty good, except I will recomend to them to get a different hood bracket made up. The brackets I got were a one-bolt, so you only have to remove one bolt from the hood, which eases the install, but doesn't fit as well as I would like IMO. Still good fitment, but i'm pretty **** with brackets and such...

As you can see, the hood shocks fit well, easy install, simple bolt on. These follow the Top Secret G35 hood shocks pattern, and as you can see, there is no cutting except for the notching out of the cover to access that one bolt.

the hood shuts exact and closes with ease, no issues with the shocks interfering.
All in all a good alternative.

Now, I've read everywhere not to use hood shocks for a CF hood. I have a stillen CF hood which is heavier than most CF hoods out there (due to the bump and reinforcements to clear the blower etc). I don't have any issues with these shocks, until you close the hood from it's fully extended position. And again it's not a big deal, but should be noted. The hood flexes just a tad at the hinge when closing, so you have to be careful when closing. So you do not have to worry about the hood bulging up and cracking when shut, it's when SHUTTING the hood you want to be a bit careful... That and opening, you don't want to let the hood fly open either.

NOTE: REGULAR ALUMINUM HOODS WILL NOT HAVE ANYTHING IN THE ABOVE PARAGRAPH TO WORRY ABOUT....

The shocks themselves are strong, maybe too strong for a CF hood, but these are perfect for an OEM aluminum hood.

All in all, a fairly good mod. My buddy should be setting up a group buy as soon as I send him my info and they finalize the brackets etc..

The hood opens a hair higher than if you were to put the hood prop stand up.
so you hvae full access to the engine bay like normal.

My friend says that he is working on custom brackets that will make the hood lower when fully opened, which might be nicer for some show guys, but will take away access to underhood....

I'm very happy with the space I have with these when the hood is up.

 

I don't ever get anything for free I had to pay for these, just not full retail...

 

When will these be out?

 

As soon as they are finalized, i'll try and pick up a few, and try to run a group buy or perhaps set it up with my buddy. but i'd expect at least a month or two.
they will be offered with higher strength and lower strength shocks for both OEM and CF hoods respectively.
I'll get a pair of the lower strength ones as soon as they come in so i can test them and make sure they'll be good enough for a CF hood. Brackets should be re-designed as well.

Should be a nice kit finally!
