Default painting body kit

Hi guys
This is my first time getting a body kit install. I got the Nismo replica kit and shopping around for prices. Most places said that they need to paint the area around where the add-on kit is. Like they have to blend in. Is that seems right? The paint is still new and I don't want them to touch the paint. But if that's the only way to do it to get it match then what do you guys think? I live in NY and they quote me from $800 to $2000 paint + install. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

If you have a damaged fender, do they normally paint the nearby door also? I don't think they do.

It seems to me they should be able to match the paint BEFORE installing the new part.

Do we have any guys on the board that have body shop/painting experience?

Any shop should be able to get the factory the color code off the door jam. The body shop just needs to paint the Nismo pieces themselves. The Nismo pieces should be painted off the car and installed (no blending required).

If they want to paint them on the car go else where. You will get overspray all over your new factory paint.

Also the $2000 quote is way too high. I would say $800 is fair deal if your going to get a wing painted too. If its just the kit rear sides and front itself it should only be around 600 or so.

Figure every panel is going to be around 200 bucks. Wing are usually 200--300 depending onhow big they are. Hope that helps.

ZPhatZ,

I'm also having my kit installed. The thread is here if you'd like to take a look.

I'm getting it done at a friend's shop, and to answer your question, no they do not have to paint around the area in order to blend the paint. If that's the case, they can't just paint a portion of the area around it, they'd pretty much end up painting everything but the top of the car. A good shop would be able to match the color of the paint and make several sample sticks to compare each shade to make sure that the right one fits your car. $2000 seems a bit steep as well, if the kit fits right and there isn't too much sanding and adjustments to do, I've been quoted an average of $1200 for both paint + installation.

Thank you for all your repsonses. I will try to find a shop that doesn't require blending.

Default painting

I just talked with a close friend the other day about painting a kit and he said there are many variables that can affect the "color", such as air pressure to the gun, speed of the passes, prep work and many more. My car looks differant at various angles, even when it is the factory paint!
Be careful who you select to do the job, I will use a reputable body shop that is bonded when I get to that project. Ask other people who had such work done in your area.

Yup, the reason why the factory paint looks different from different angles is that the front and rear bumpers were painted separately from the rest of the car. Then they were assembled together. A good body shop should be able to get an even better match, the only reason why the factory isn't perfect is because it's the best they could do as a mass production thing.

Since your car is new the paint should not have much fading, but the bumpers tend to be a little off from the body color. Most reputable body shops can get the color to match very closly or even exact to the bumpers.
