Im pretty sure they make a engine grade paint, just go to Kragen or Pep boys. The paint can withstand super high temps. You have have to sand the cover before you paint though... ?

The plastic doesn't get hot enough to require high temp engine paint. First, plastic pieces need to be sanded and primed with Bulldog Primer - that sticks to plastic so the paint will stick to it.

I ordered a can of spray paint from TowerPaint.com - all you do it give them your factory paint code and they'll send you a can of spray enamel or acyrlic that matches perfectly.

Finally, hit it with a few coats of clear-coat and it will be done.

Does anyone know what would be the best way to remove and put back the emblem on the engine cover if I were going to paint it myself?

Thanks for any help.

I believe there are two plastic rivets on the back side. You just drill the head off those and use a flat head screwdriver to pry it up.

No rivets,no drilling, just 2 alignment studs, use a heat gun/hair drier carefully on it and just pry it off

Hi-temp paint should hold up fine.

A dark candy or metallic red is awesome on superblack.

use a plastic fork to apply force to the emblem after heating the hair dryer. you don't really need to get it that hot for it to loosen up

note: don't be a doofus and heat the fork as well.

to get the emblem off: flip the cover over and lightly tap the emblem posts until if falls off the cover.

Any paint will work under the hood. It doesn't get near as hot as the body panels of a car in the sun.
