+1, sanded to smooth, then painted. You instead of sanding the plastic smooth, you could also put a thin layer of bondo on it, then sand that smooth.
I hadnt really thought of that ---but Ya. Might even do better with Glazing Compound because you really dont have that much to fill and GC is really just Laquer Primer in a paste form. The Laquer would really "bite" into the plastic. Its applied with a rubber squeegy.

You don't even need to do that. I personally sanded my own console. After about 5 hours with an orbital sander, you get down passed the texture to smooth plastic.
Yeah, I'm just thinking it might even be quicker doing it the way Eazzzzzzy or I mentioned; prob. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Any way you cut it, it's a pretty labor intensive job, but comes out nice in the end.
I may kill some time and play with it this week ---I'll save this thread and give a report on how the Glazing Compound works, I need to pick up a new tube so Im sure it is "hot" laquer content wise for a good bite on the plastic. as a matter of fact I have a 04 cubby I will try it on first
Good idea. I'm thinking either of those options would sand smooth alot easier than the actual plastic of the dash piece itself...
You'd have to sand the plastic anyway and then the filler/glaze as well. I don't know about you guys, but I'd feel much more secure with sanding it smooth and primering it. That's just me though.
Hey anyone have any pics of a z with the front interior with a modified dash kit? was thinking of changing it, but not sure what color would look good?? black??

Just took my console apart and am sending it out there to be done in Silverstone to match the exterior. They say it's about a week turn around. They'll do paint to match or carbon fiber...up to you.
