painting and primering
hey im not sure about this question and ive searched and googled but they all say pretty muc h the same thing which is just to use a primer beofre your top coat....so my question is does the color of the primer matter as in does it affect the way the top coat's color will be? for instance i want to paint my engine cover...(assuming i prepped right to paint over plasitc) would i want to primer it with a lighter color? or can i just paint over it?
edit*
what would be a reasonable cost to get each headlight housing colormatched by a professional painter?
thanks

It won't affect the final color of the paint, but it will affect how many base coats coats you have to spray.
Since your car is red it will cover up light or dark primer about the same.
