Kinda make sense; the heat expands/softens the metal and sudden, intense cold quickly contracts it, shrinking and forcing it to return to its pre-formed shape.

The extreme change in temperature is what allows this technique to be successful.

I've heard of using a hairdryer and dry ice to take out dents. But this is new to me.

+1, updated version of the old dry ice trick. Should work on some dents, but not others. Depends on the size and where they are. Works best for larger, smooth dents on a flat area.

I'll also be trying this out real soon on another car. I hope to get it done by this weekend. I'll try to report back here asap.

I've done this before on my old trail jeep. It works great if you have a bigger dent that is smooth.

Kinda the same thing as getting a tire on a rim with some gas and a lighter.

I've heard of dry ice myself. I believe this is only for pressed in dents without any creases. So I doubt it will work for door dings.
