Extending wires on gauges
I am installing 3 Autometer gauges and I have a sneeky suspicion that the wires for the gauges will be too short. Is it ok to add length to them or will the gauge not read correctly. The gauges are water temp, oil temp and oil press. All Autometer C2. So they are electric. With that being said I am pretty sure I know the answer but just want to hear it from someone who has done it before. Thanks for the info.
Yeah, Question was not clear enough. I was actually thinking of the wires that go to the sensors themselves. Pwr, gnd etc I knew was ok to extend. The gauges are electric not mechanical. The instructions are quite basic, but no mention of this.
thanks
thanks
Im surprised they may not be long enough. Im a little particular with ----well everything. Use the same gauge ( Radio Shack has that small gauge ) Solder it and shrink tube it. Resistance shouldnt play a part.
I am more concerned with the water temp than the oil side of things. The water temp sensor is going in the upper rad hose which is fair distance from the drivers side pillar. Still haven't located a definative place to run the wires through the firewall on the drivers side. I already ran some wiring through the passenger side without much difficulty. I have yet to remove the lower drivers side dash or the dash section that houses the radio to maybe find a route between sides.
