Question Interior Materials - Questions and Thoughts

I started this thread because my research has turned up something of a dead end (or open end). I think it is easy to say that the Z interior, though well styled, suffers from poor quality materials and design/cost trade-offs. I would like to improve on some of the interior design characteristics of the car by taking in some of the visual elements found in the current model and combining them with elements in the concept cars of a few years back. But alas, I am not a machine shop specialist and have never dealt with the modification of a car's interior.

I have however seen pictures of showcars like that of rockford fosgate and alpine that have extensively modified interiors. So my question is this:

What kind of materials are used for these cars? Which is more preferable among consumers : plastics or metals? How difficult is it to make custom moldings and what companies specialize in this field?

My research has turned up several ways of making molds which utilize substances from aluminum to plastics to fiberglass. So with all these options before me, I'm stuck on how to proceed. If there are any experts out there, your input is most welcome.

My goal is to produce a final product that will be somewhat of a "bolt-on" interior upgrade meant to vastly improve the current design. Though my personal cost will be high, I hope to pass what I discover to other Z owners in the form of a consumer level sub $1K upgrade kit. Finally, if any of you are interested in directly helping me in my endeavor, please feel free to PM me.

Any comments or suggestions will definitely help form the final product. Thanks in advance!

The metal parts are actualy brushed aluminum. I'm sure there are shops out there that will re-do your dash if you just wan't like leather over the plastic or something, but if you're looking for something new and different in look from the stock dash, depending on where you live you can look into a stereo shop that does fiberglass trunks, they might be able to fab up a dash for you.
