Default Pikes Peak White paint matching

I met up with Ed from Quality Dents from SF Bay area and he said the metal has stretched and did not want to risk working on it because he's a perfectionist and wants to guarantee his work.

I've asked 2 bodyshops and both have quoted me $2K to $2.3K just to fix the dent and pretty much paint and blend the whole passenger side of the car.

My question is: if I pick up door a stock used, how much variation should I expect? Should I do it? Any pros and cons?

Anyone know of where to look for one? Have one lying around?

thats crazy 2k just to fix the door! i don't think the paint would be too bad if you bought another stock door... getting the one you have repainted.. i would think that would have a worse paint match..

but on another note you should try:

and buff the rest out.

$2K is about right to replace the doorskin, paint the door, and color match it to the other panels from a high quality shop. Why not just pay your insurance deductible and let them pay for it? A used door will likely cost more than your deductible and you still won't know about the color match until you get it on.. not to mention other potential issues from a door that's been sitting in a junk yard for a while.

paint with PPG brand paint, otherwise you're likelyhood of paintmatching is going to be:

a. 98% failure in paint matching (enough where you can tell it's been resprayed)

b. you pay a fortune for a high, high, high grade professional to do some sort of laborous paint matching process with some other brand of paints

summary: use PPG Brand paint only; if the shop does not use it, buy the paint from an outside paint dealer source and provide it for said shop and have them apply the paint you purchased for use.

Two grand is about right. They're going to have to skin/paint the door and blend the fender and rear quarter. Skins are one of the hardest things to do right in body work. If the guy doesn't know what he's doing you'll end up with a warped door or one filled with body filler anyway. I'd prefer a new door just to be safe.
