Default What to do with my Steering Wheel?

So I've tried cleaning and protecting my steering wheel, but now I see the problem.. the material is wearing out and I can see the grey underneath. This stuff sticks to my hands and makes it so I don't want to drive around.. (as much! ). Its only worn out on the top and the two sides. The middle and bottom are still in perfect condition. So what do I do?

I don't want to get an aftermarket steering wheel.. still want to be safe with an airbag since it is my daily driver..

Options:

1) Find some materials to re-surface my steering wheel. Is this possible? And what do I need to do this?

2) Get someone to re-wrap my steering wheel. (again not that aftermarket stuff.. tends to be too thick and makes the steering wheel too large! I mean to take the current OEM cover off and re-wrap it) Again, is this possible and does anyone know who can do it in Northern Cali? How much it is?

3) Just replace the steering wheel. How much do you think this would cost? I know the airbag is reeeeallly freakin expensive, so is it possible to leave it intact while just changing the outer steering wheel? Again, know where I can have this done in Northern Cali for cheap??

Any help PLeeeeasse! I don't want to come out of my car with black hands again!

Thanks!

Pretty sure you can get a new wheel and reuse the airbag.. I did it for my Honda Accord. The wheels were on ebay for like 40 dollars..

Kind of looks like they tried to child-proof the car! hahaa.. I appreciate the help though. Maybe it looks better in person? Where would you be able to get that done? Price?

Hey Benny! I'm still sporting the radiator cover you sold me.. How you doin? Yeah, I've seen those steering wheel covers out there and that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid.. a bulky steering wheel.. There's got to be a way to resurface, a genuine re-wrap with leather or just get a new steering wheel..

Default Same issue

I have the exact same issue. It is only worn at the top, and it is getting worse even though I'm trying to touch that area as little as possible.

It seems that the top section is separate from the others, is it possible to get just that portion rewrapped. I'm even willing to get the entire thing rewrapped.

anyone know someone who can do it, or if it's even possible?

I still haven't heard about any tips about this yet either.. if you find out where to get it re-wrapped and the cost, please let me know! So far, its gotten a little less "sticky" and no more black stuff on my hands.. but still has no real grip to it.

if you still have your warranty i hear that the dealership may be able to replace it. i have the same exact problem with mine and it seems like as every day passes by, it gets worse. i'm going to call and ask one of these days, its worth a shot...

if dealer wont cover it under warranty(which they probably wont) just find a good upholstery shop and have them wrap it in real leather, cuz im pretty sure the wheel is not real and thats y it fades. it really isnt a huge job if done by a pro who has done it before. a good upholstery place will be able to do it and it will look as good if not better than new.

Someone else said it... find a GOOD upholstery shop. Ask around with car guys (typically hot rod type guys will know the best shops for this as they typically have full custom interiors or re-done interiors). I wouldnt think it would cost TOO much, but you will not be able to drive for a day or two while its being done.
