Default Gas filler door

My wife just got her new 07 ZR 6sp three weeks ago. The car is sitting in the garage tonight with an almost empty tank and a gas filler door that won't open ! I can hear the electric motor when I press the switch but the door won't open. Is there a way to maually open the sucker ????

I'd get to a dealer as quickly as possible before she runs out of gas. Definitely covered under warranty.

you can manually open it from inside the trunk area. All cars have a manual gas door opener. Read the manual

There is no electric motor, its simply a cable.

No, there is definitely a motor. I can hear it very clearly, it is loud. It is spinning for about 3 seconds when I hit the switch ,instead of just pulling the cable. It must be an ASSembly problem.
BTW, I looked in the trunk and see no cable to pull (like on other cars). what gives ?

Try pushing the button while somebody else pulling on the door to get it opened. It's not a motor, rather a solenoid. And take it to the dealer to get it fixed.

Tried with 2 people, it still won't open. You are right, it is a solenoid. There is nothing in the rear wheel well that suggests access to the solenoid. Could it be just behind the trunk right-side liner ? Did anyone ever take that liner off and notice the fuel door mechanism ?

You tried putting something under the edge of the door and prying while someone else hit the switch? That is what i use to do when mine would not open.

It's not like he was talking about prying on it with an metal screwdriver. Maybe something plastic. It's not like your going to have to apply that much pressure. Lighten up a little.

Nissan should be reprimanded for not providing a manual opening of the fuel door and, more importantly fo not mentioning it anywhere in their owner's manual. Everything from a Hyundai to an LP640 Lambo have an emergency cable alternative. just think for a minute; if you're in the middle of the NM desert and you have timed your visit to a gas station, you're running on fumes, you get to your gas station in the middle of nowhere, you push the switch and the fuel door does not open...
On a positive note, I took off the trunk right side panel (after unclipping the plastic strip at the trunk's edge) and located the solenoid. Pulled back on the plunger and the door openend. This is for anyone who has the problem; it takes a few minutes but it is a life savior.

Then its probably you're fault for running on fumes

On another note, if I had to get it open and I didn't know about doing the manual release, I would probably just breka the damn thing open and deal with it later with Nissan under warranty. Not a big deal

They get stuck occasionally, just a minor door adjustment. It is aggravating though.

No, this 4 week old 07 has a defectve solenoid. No door hinge problem.
And for you wise guy who suggests not running on fumes, I was just trying to illustrate a situation where this problem could produce a nasty situation in the middle of nowhere.

Haha sorry

But really though, would you rather worry about your car or break your door open to get some gas in the car while you are out in the middle of no where?

I would crack the door open in a heartbeat and worry about it later

I have searched my Owner's Manual, and find no information of that sort.

And I have inspected the rear hatch area, including the area where the spare and jack are stored, and cannot see any manual release.

Maybe you could provide some more information. Where is that info in the Owner's Manual? Where is the manual release located?

I didn't know there was a manual release either short of pulling on the cable itself.

Just read what I wrote a couple of posts above. On my wife's Roadster, I removed the plastic panel at the back of the trunk; I then removed the right side panel and I could see the solenoid. I tucked on a white plastic latch on the solenoid itself and the plunger retracted and opened the door. It is the same location, the same solenoid on the Coupe; the panels may be just a little different. Now if Nissan had been smart (like the rest of the manufacturers), they would have drilled a small hole on that tab and attached a cable with a ring to pull somewhere inside the trunk. Right now here is NO cable, only an electrical cable and a solenoid.
