im in up to $200
$300 tops for the combo w/ signals
u can easily get cheapers LED's
i think someone else already mentioned them, but the clear LED's with that emit red light are great, very very bright. they're a lot cheaper too. i had to build an RC car for a final project last week. i bought 10 clear w/red LED's for about $7 maybe a bit less. but im pretty sure you can get them for a lot less buying in bulk.

ne way im in for clear lens like vqracer....if your going to make them.

peace

by the way who is the freak that would pay 600??
come on....no really come on............thats sick

yes the reds are inexpensive(tho still not free) but its a fair amount of plastic molding. I still havent gotten a final quote for the part, but I dont think 200 will be possible, would have been nice, but its unlikely that would cover the cost of parts. it becomes more tangled when you start tossing in the idea of the lens needing to be molded as well.

yes it does help, feel free to post more.

what I think is obvious at this point, there is no way this can be produced for 200 or less, just not possible.

but for those that want LEDs, but want it on a budget, it is possible to just use the stock housing... certainly not the setup Im planning for. but it can and has been done. I want the housing flush with the lens as you see in those pics, but the LEDs can be placed in the recessed housing as well, not sure if anyone would even want this. it was just something I saw on a M3.

my dad said why not shape the LEDs into a Z.

both are possibilities(assuming for yours that Im making a new lens) but Im trying to stay on the nice side of that very fine nice/rice line. one wrong move, and some people wont touch it.

Im actaully a bit perplexed by what you guys mean by 2 tone, you mean sort of like what altezzas have? with red circles within a clear border?

or do you mean red reflector and the lit portion of the lens being clear?

Please don't two tone it. Even if it does look nice, everyone's gonna associate it with Altezza's and I definitely will not touch it in that case.

Im just trying to keep cost down, for a new tail light, I need 4 tools, 2 for each side, housing and lens. each master copy to make the tool from is going to cost 300-1000 to make. see the problem? that doesnt even get me anything yet. thats just for the master and soft tool.

after that need 4 peices each time, not cheap, plus LEDs.

Im tryin here, but Im having a bit of a problem figuring out how Im going to make money on this, let alone enough money to even begin to cover the 2000-4000$ start up cost.

going to contact nissan about getting lens, as that would save money on 2 costs and hopefully be cheaper to buy, but then they cant be smoked or different in any other way.

its just an expensive proposition and Im not sure people are willing to pay what its going to cost. but I cant really find out untill I have a product to show you, which I cant get untill I pay atleast enough for a single tool and purchase a whole tail light for the lens to put onto it...

I'm not sure if thats something you want to mess with unless you have a lot of extra cash sitting around or you want to make it a full time job. If you make a few and it costs you 5 or 600 a piece people will flake and you'll be screwed.

like I was saying earlier... unless you produce several thousand... forget it. your cost per unit is going to be above what the selling price point ought to be.

maybe wait another year when we're flooded with more Z's or just hand make some "one offs" for you and a few of your good friends.

try to hand make one to give people a better idea of what it will actually look like. then maybe u can get a list of people who really do want it, and would pre pay.....just so you have an idea of overall costs.

NO!NO!NO! Thats a BIG NO NO~~.. NOt ALtezza lights..
I personally drive a Is300 right now..and I hate cars outside putting on altezza lights.. so..f*cking gay...

The Two Tone I meant is like..kind of like Celica..you know, like the top majority part of the light lense are in Red colour lense. .and the very bottom..like the small portion is clear "whitish" colour lense..like Euro-kind of lights....instead of All Red..... that will give a nice contrast i beleive...

U have a better idea of what I'm trying to say..I would love to draw it out and show u guys what i meant.. but I'm not so good with putting up picture on the forums..
Sorry

I think I know what your saying, but isnt that white portion the reverse light? our reverse light is below.

anyway, I emailed the place for a final quote, we'll see what they say. I dont see how this could be less than 400$ tho. thats for a full set of tail lights, with lenses and housing. not modified stock lights. figuring how nissan get 600 for a set, if I can manage 400, Ill be impressed.

I guess the thing that needs to be remembered is that this is no longer a modified stock light made from fiberglass. this would be a perfectly molded tail light all by itself. again, I dont even know what they will come back as a cost for each peice. but we shall see.

on the plus side, everyone that has a set can rest assured they have a very limited product, not like anything else you can get.
waiting for the email tomarrow...

That's the problem. There has to be WAY high volume of sales to recoup the costs. My company has a plastic die-casting machine and just the dies alone (even for a tiny 2"x2"x2" product) can be well over 10k bucks...
