Painting interior plastic with SEM
Hi all,
I'm adding tweeter pods to my a-pillars and trying to figure out which way would be best to finish them within my skill level. I can do a couple of different things:
1) Cover them in vinyl or leather- but stretching either may be tough over the pod.
2) Paint just the built out pod differently than the rest of the trim
3) Repaint the whole piece with SEM
I want to do either 1 or 3, but have never worked with SEM and have heard it's more of an art then just spraying.
Anyone worked with SEM before and know what color they have that would match the dark grey/ black interior plastic?
Thanks.

I don't know what speakers you are getting, but I picked up some Polk MOMO 6500's for the front which have a seperate tweeter. The tweeter housing is finished in aluminum which exactly matches the Z's interior trim. I surface mounted them on the plastic sails and they look factory. Just an idea that kinda goes around all the pushups you're looking at going through. I'll see if I can grab a couple of pics.

SEM is the way to go. I would use the Satin Black color. I have used it many times in various projects and I would say it is easier than spraying a can of paint. The only thing I would recommend is using Bulldog adheseive promoter for plastic. Repaint the whole thing in SEM
So I've got one vote for vinyl and one for SEM.
Here's a quick pic for quicksilver.
I was going to post the whole set together when I was done... that way I could be sure I didn't screw them up too bad before I started posting pics.
Be nice, I've never done anything like this before.......

Oh, and I'm using DLS IR1 tweeter. The goal is to get them to face the middle of the opposite side window. So driver side tweeter faces the middle of the passenger's window.

I'm not sure how it work with your interior, but have you thought about painting the whole thing a flat black? Maybe even trim black? Obviously there would be prepping involved.
Vinyl looks good when done right. Horrible when done wrong.

Mike you my friend are in a bit of a dilemma.
I will try and give you a call today to see whats what and how I can help. I know we have very similar taste.
Dom (Mr X) is my installer and good friend.... He'll be building the Kwame (with Dom flair) box in a couple of weeks. If this works as we are hoping, my sub stage is going to be outright ridiculous.... in a good way.
I have a contact on 350zmotoring who is going to check on vinyl. Here is what he did:

Mine will be very similar but angled back more.
Kwame- would love to talk with you. I'll be in a meeting from 10:00am (my time) until about 12:00. But otherwise will be free.

Now where am I going to put all this purple **** carpet I was going to use?
