I got one of these. I have the stock bumper so I just used a spade bit to make two 1.75" holes where it is blocked. Seems to do some good, the filter box is always cold when I pop the hood.

Any pics of it on the car with the bumper on?

If you're using the stock bumper, why are you needing to modify it?

If it made a difference with the 2 holes you drilled, imagine if you just gut out that entire section...

No, I almost did but then you can see into the space between the fender end bumper. Super bad.

What about just cutting around the air ducts opening, so that just the air duct opening is visible?

Looks like you should be fine just cutting out that area. Looks like the fender has its own plastic shield.
It wouldnt remount because it would move around?

You can't really tell but the inside edge of the duct sticks out about 1/2" already and it's only like 2.5" maybe 3" across. Also I really don't like to interrupt symmetry on something so beautiful.

I put mine on a while ago so I don't remember all that much about it.

I just went out to my car and it seems like that piece can be removed. Its is held on with 3 clips that attach to the crash bar.
You can see the first hole for the first clip in this pic. It is one out of three holes in the crash bar

besides the 2 bolts, what else is holding this thing in place. It seems as if it would move around and rattle.

I'm all about symmetry, man. Two holes is already bad enough IMO.

It doesn't move, it's a pretty tight fit.
