Default New headlights, Philips

Well. I thought i was going to commit suicide the other night, i got my philips ultinons in the mail, theyre 6000k. I didnt remove the bumper or the tires so i wanted to just kill myself trying to swap them in. Then it started raining and it took me like 3 hours.... i dropped a parking light and the bulb went into the front of the headlight housing, i flipped. Anyway i dont think i could be happier with a headlight. Theyre 6000k but look a tint of purple and theyre just as bright. I LOVE them. Take a look. Also heres what my license plate leds look like.... basicly lexus rear end heh. Pics were taken from camera phone, and i dimmed the brightness to see the actual color, except the license plates... shoulda dimmed it, too blurry.

Wanted to keep it a secret but i gotta help out my fellow Z members. Check this guys store out.... i dont know the longevity of them but theyre really bright and have a big heatsink on them. They look perfect white exactly like the new lexus'. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2pcs-...ayphotohosting . My reverse lights are from vleds.com..... they suck for light output but they look like hids when i back up... soo i roll down my tint when i back up now.... oh well lol. I just put the leds in my parking lights and put my pos piaa leds in my license plate till my 2nd pair of leds come in. This guys makes the piaas look like dim ****. seekndestroy said he spotted a silver z with bright license plates and i was like yep that was me haha. those leds, are prolly 2nd best mod ive done lol. I also ordered his circuit board leds for the domes... and a right angle led for the hatch light. I have faith, them japanese are good with gadgets lol...

Still think its weird that my bulbs come out purplish for 6000k. I LOVE them, but not suppose to be that way, i love the way they light up white lines and signs and seeing the reflection off of things lol, they say germany on them so theyre philips.... i gave my stockers to my friend to put in his gti and they were **** yellow i was cracking up, funny the stockers are philips too i think.

I haven't seen any 6000k bulbs in person yet, but I know the stock ones should not be yellow. Maybe it's your camera, but in your picture, they look so yellow that I thought they were halogen. Mine are just white, with slight tint of blue.

The new ones might look more purple than normal because of my phone, but the stockers are definetly that color. Compare them to halogen and yea, they look white as hell but theyre yellow... 4300 isnt white, maybe 5000k, but i know i drove with them for 3 months then seeing them in my friends gti, they were nasty looking. piaa makes 6500k, would be a nice color, but theyre 320 bucks on ebay. Should be putting in my friends 8000k's for him tomorrow, way too dark and blue for my taste, lol well see what they turn out like, ill post pics.

Wow, looks really purple in that picture, was that during warm up or had they been on for a while? My Phillips 6000ks were a subtle blue in my 04 headlights. I just ordered a set of the D2S ones for my 06 lights hoping they would look similar...

So the license plate bulbs were actually wedge bulbs. I didn't know that.

Is it the same as the park light bulbs?

Yea front parking lights and license plate lights are 168 size... those pics are warmed up, i didnt get the box with them but they did say philips germany on them... so im sure theyre the ultinons, philips doesnt make any higher k anyway, also the 07's have a much larger projector lense, maybe the 06 too? i dont think so though... ide have to look... the headlights were on a brown garage door but they still do look purplish on cars and light up white lines and signs amazingly. They look real exotic, think i saw a 3 series behind me with the same exact ones.... theyre definetly not 12k tho lol, theyre brighter than stock, least with highbeams on.

Yea so now im really curious as to why my 6000k's are purple. Last night i installed my friends 8000k's and i first was like oh **** they dont look too blue against the building but i didnt say anything. So after some problems we got them in and drove around the block to a warehouse with no lights and parked side by side with lights on.... his looked yellowish on the wall, but when he was behind me they were definetyly blue, and he lit the ground up blue too.

8000k is definetly not too dark, his look great, an have an ice blueish, far from ricerish. But looking at both side by side... my are totally purplish. I mean i like the color but does anyone have an idea as to why theyre this color. My parking lights dont even come close to matchin now, my parking lights are on that spectrum super white but into blue.

Maybe you weren't sold genuine Philips bulbs? I just put in my D2S bulbs this week and they are blue like the D2Rs I had in my 04s.

I have not a clue, they said germany on them, and they had the trademark bloodstain in the bulb. They are purple but not 12k's lol... theyre bright... 12's definetly are more purple and arent bright....

looks like all the other phillips ultinons 6000k I've seen, and they put out 25% less light than stock based off of phillips own spec sheets. Even looking at your pics, the OEM bulb is way more intense than the ultinon.

I cant get enough of them anyway, honestly since the color is more whiteish, they appear brighter. The yellowish stockers dont illuminate signs the same way as these and ill never get sick of seeing my headlights reflection on cars bumpers lol, oh i love them.

good info - but I am confused, do we need D2R or D2S bulbs in our cars? Seems like i could use either or? I read somewhere that the D2R is to be used without a projector, and the D2S is for a projector -- I am assuming I need D2S bulbs for my 03 then?

I believe the D2R have a certain notch pattern as appose to the D2S. There is a so called Universal bulbs, the D2C, and it adapts to both D2R and D2S.
http://faqlight.carpassion.info/phil...se-notches.jpg

I read this in a Honda Forum when I googled the subject in question:
"D2S is made for projectors, and then D2R is mostly the same, but has an extra black stripe around the bulb, to reduce glare when used in HID reflector applications."

So I'd say the D2R for the 2003-2006, since they are reflector based, and I assume D2S for the '07s.
