Default Door panel painting help?

I am about to paint my center console and my engine covers to match my car. I am in an autobody class and I asked my teacher if that was possible and he says that if the panel is a different material than the center console then no but otherwise yes. So I need some help from you guys to see if the panel is the same material. And if I do it and it doesnt work out does anyone know how much a new panel would cost? BTW: I am not wanting to paint the entire panel just the top that looks like the center console. Pic swould be posted but i am without a digital camera.

You asked if you could paint the engine cover and the center console, right? Many people have painted their engine cover and battery/brake covers. I've never seen the door tops painted. Just the bottoms.

I've seen the center console painted as well. There should not be a problem with that. I would do a test patch in a spot that won't show just to be safe (back inside of the console). Pick up a cheap air brush at one of the dollar stores to do a small sample.

I've used PPG Deltron DBU paint with a DRR1170 reducer. I have Pikes Peak white which is a pearl. That is a 3 stage (base, pearl, clear). If your color is not PPW then you will need to shoot 2 stages (base and clear).

I used transtar 6844 kwik gloss and 6877 activator for my clear coat.

I just finished painting my Veilside lip and am very happy with the results. And no, I didn't use the air brush to paint the lip

Don't wanna hijack this thread, but can you post pics? I would love to see how it came out.

Just a quick pic on my veilside lip as requested. The red circle is where I filled in the fold because I wanted the lip to be one continous piece. Sorry for the bad quality pic. I shot it at night right after finishing it this weekend. I haven't had a chance to put it on yet.
