I have a 2003 Touring w/HID and I've noticed that there is what looks like cracks on the interior of the plastic. You can't really see it well when the lights are off, but when they're on it looks like ****, really makes it look old and beat up.


Has anyone else had issues with the headlights?
Can I put overlays to cover it up without smoking the entire thing?
Do I need new headlights? If so which ones won't do this again?

Also I noticed after I picked it up and washed it the first time that the rear passanger taillight has a crack in it, so the light is filled with moisture. Gotta reaplace that.

 

My front headlights have the same look.
I dunno what I wanna do with it yet.
I'd like OEM replacements, but they're expensive.
I'd like the "crystal" or black aftermarket headlights, but fitment and quality issues arise. I think I'll just wait and hope someone walks by and smashes them in

As for the tails... No fogging problems here.

 

I'd just have to fork it up and buy new lights. I wouldn't try to cover it. I don't think that would work. Maybe you can find a good set in the classifieds? There seems to be a few posted every other day.

its stress cracks. i have them too. mine are on the inside and outside. it happens if you use overlays etc on your headlights, but also just wear and tear. the only way to fix it that i am aware of is getting new headlights. (buy the cheap online ebay ones, and just use the plastic clear cover, not the housing) and reseal it onto your oem housing. done!

 

I have that same problem...I've tried everything from Scratch-X to a fine fine grit sand paper. Nothing works. Just looking around for a salvaged Z to take the headlights from now.

 

I have the same problem and it keeps getting worse. I think im going to do whats suggested above and buy some ebay lights for the covers b/c mine have the inside painted by mr. zipps. Don't wanna loose those

What is involved with replacing the plastic cover? How hard is it to do?

Yeah, I would like to know too. I have the same problem.

 

It would be the same process as taking apart the headlight to paint the inside.

You'd have to buy a replacement light, preferably aftermarket, and bake the light in an oven and pry the pristine plastic off. Then, bake your own headlights and take that cover off, swap the two, re-bake, liberally re-silicone.

 

I dropped my car in for a full valet and was shocked to find both headlights with hundreds of fine cracks on the interior cover of the lights. They valet people are denying any responsiblity for the damage. Any idea how this could happen? Help!

 

Most likely you are just noticing it now. The spider cracks don't just appear overnight. I severely doubt the valet did anything to hurt your lights.

 

they are cracks, you cant buff out cracks.

 

They are cracks on the inside of the lense. Reason why nothing on the outside fixes it. And actually Yes you can buff them out. You remove the cover, wet sand the inside of the lense down, then buff it out to like new condition.

I know it's an old thread, but does anyone know why a set of headlights would start to turn green around the edges? My headlights are kind of greenish around the edges when turned on, and it looks like ****. Any help?

 

my opionion.. probably has a yellow fade in it, and the bluish tint of the headlights make it look green. try to buff and polish the edges.

or you just have algae chilling in your headlights
